To think how many Oberheims that song (and video) helped sell.

The PPG Wave2 demo (that was for the actual synth, notLiquidSoul wrote:Intro I mean. I've got demos of almost all the synths on the web nowbut I'd prefer a preset for FM7. Can anybody help me?
Thank you!
the software) had the Jump intro, and it made me wonder if it it was actually a PPG on the track, and not an OB like everyone (including the liner notes, I suppose) thought. Because the PPG version sounds more like the actual intro than the OB!

Rhino 2 has 3 commercial Oberheim banks by Daniel Maurer:LiquidSoul wrote:yes, the hardware synth is oberheim, but is there a VSTi oberheim or similar?Bake wrote:Oberheim if I remember right.

I could swear it was an ARP 2600.

Yep, it was an OBX actually through on of his Marshall amps! The OBXa wasn't out yet I think but they added the sound to preset 11. On tour, you'd see him with an OBXa though...fishbowl.tucson.az wrote:The PPG Wave2 demo (that was for the actual synth, notLiquidSoul wrote:Intro I mean. I don't think there's a VSTi that emulates that 12db filter very good yet. This filter has a very beefy sound that you sometimes have to thin it out on your mix to fit in!

someone somewhere at kvr recently said most of the so-called Mpls sound (when it was still caled that) Prince and the Time used Oberheims. To think how many Oberheims that song (and video) helped sell.
i know Rodger Dodger in so. mpls and Torp's downtown were both selling Oberheims. I suppose they moved a few.
unfortunately not enough to keep Oberheim in business.

There is a very nice imitation of the Oberheim OB-Xa (ZooTooK) in the Reaktor user library.

go buy a yamaha cs2x. there's a preset called "jump", that's what it is... you'll also get a preset called "europe"... one could only imagine what that one is capable of

As if it wasn't sucktastic enough before, they now use "Final Countdown" as the theme song for a f**king DOG SHOW! This must be a sign of the apocalypse...neverwhere2012 wrote: you'll also get a preset called "europe"... one could only imagine what that one is capable of![]()

Owned both an OBXa and a 2600. Definitely OBX, as the 2600 is mono (although could do duophonic with tweeking). Best emulation of that sound is on the Wavestation patch 'analoglovethang'. It's quite a bitch getting the exact sound using the OBXa, there's quite a bit of outboard processing on it.
Now for something way more interesting, does anyone know what synth was used on the Kate Bush song 'Running up that hill'?

Yeah, Oberheim OB-Xa is the one in the video isn't it? On the record it could be an OB-X. The OB-X is the synth you hear all over Rush's Moving Pictures. That's the sound I think of when I think Oberheim. It's a shame Oberheim is so under-represented in software. The best thing that I've found is SimSynth Live from Image-Line... they don't make a big deal about it being tailored after an Oberheim but it really sounds like what I hear on Moving Pictures... it's really unique for a VA.

I think to remember, it was an Akai AX80. I could be wrong tho.leeturne wrote:Now for something way more interesting, does anyone know what synth was used on the Kate Bush song 'Running up that hill'?
Soundwise I'd bet for a SCI Prophet V.
btw. on topic: The original Virus has an excellent Jump sound somewhere in the 100s of factory bank 1...
Cheers,

i've seen the commercials for that dog show. i was a little bit scared... though if the dogs were driving monster trucks or involving themselves in "extreme motocross", i think it would be more justifiable using that songVoidoidSurrealist wrote:As if it wasn't sucktastic enough before, they now use "Final Countdown" as the theme song for a f**king DOG SHOW!
