Is it possible to capture the midi output of a VST to another track in Tracktion?

Thanks

No, but if you route it to a MIDI output you can export a MIDI file and re-import.

Well, actually I think you can. Just create a rack that contains only midi in to midi out connection (name it for example midi send)and put it into the track after the VST (of course that VST has to be able to send midi) and after that put another instance of that midi send rack to another track before the VST you like to send the midi data.

You should check those rack tutorials on the www.adbe.org once that is available again, they really show the potential of racks. BTW that midi only rack is also quite handy for creating sound patches with multiple VSTis, just multiply it to many tracks with different synths and enjoy.

unfortunately tho, even if that works (which i imagine it might) it won't allow the midi data to be recorded to the track itself (for further editing). fingers crossed that kind of thing is possible in T2
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

yes, sadly, it didn't work, because t1 wants to render audio if a vsti is inserted. :( not so good behavior.

This can be done. (I've done it). But I can't remember right now exactly how it was accomplished. It was via thalumus and MikiYoke--i think. Its a bit of a hack, but once you have it setup it works like a charm. I used it to make my keyboard (qwerty) into a midi input device in Tracktion. I'll search around to see if I can find an example and take a screenshot for you.

Thanks everyone. Works like a charm and only a minor pain in the butt. I'm trying the demo for Broomstick bass and that feature make's it pretty attractive. When you import the midi file you get several (depending on the articulations I guess) but when you merge them together it's a perfect match for what it plays on auto mode. Very slick.

Thanks again!
