My problem is that I don't want any more plugins, I already have 100 times more than I need. In ORION I use exactly two 3rd party effects and only five VSTi. I don't know if I am interested in having to go and find more and better ones. I've led a very sheltered existence these last four or five years, safe in the bosom of ORION.

Now that I fully understand.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on one's perspective) I don't think EnergyXT is going to add a load of effects natively like Orion has - or at least not in the near future.

My indispensable bass amp simulator
I just built this great freeware-based bass amp using ruby tube and revolberb (convolution) for the cab simulation. It's a little complicated, but the sound is better than any commercial amp sim I've heard - believe me.
The trick is using quality impulses of speaker cabinets to accurately simulate the acoustic properties of those big 15 inch speakers (or 8x10 aluminum cone things - you name it!). The best thing is: you get the characteristics of the expensive mic's used as well as the room the speaker was in. Perfect sound in headphones - My neighbours love it
for the amp sim: rubytube
http://www.silverspike.com/rubytube.html
i use it in limiter mode, driven 1/3 of max. This gives a slightly distorted tube sound, with lots of bell like treble without adding too much noise.
My favourite bass cabinet impulses are from this archive:
Phil_Fee Guitar and Bass Cabs from this page:
http://www.noisevault.com/index.php?pag ... &cat_id=18
the impulses are from an SWR workingman amp. The impulse set contains different mic. positions. I use two of them simultaniously:
Work 15 441 Cent 48s.wav
Work 15 441 edge - 6dB.wav
these are made positioning the mic at the center and the edge of the speaker - like a read recording ingeneer would do in a studio. Check out the other impulses too - some of them might be more suitet to your taste.
to use the impulses get "Revolverb Lite" from this link:
http://noisevault.com/plugs/RevolVerb_L.zip
be careful with this free beta convolver though. It crashes XT (or any host) if it cannot find the impulse you used in a song... so don't move your impulses around! It's important to download the impulses and place the two files mentioned in this directory:
C:\RevolverbImpulses\cabs
otherwise the file will NOT load.
The two revolverbs are in parallel simulating the two mics. They are stereo separated a bit to add some space.
You also need the W1 limiter (best free transparant limiter around IMHO) get it here:
http://www.yohng.com/w1limit.html
the ext file can be found here:
http://ohm.objectis.net/shared/ohm%20bass%20amp.ext
if anyone has acces to a great bass amp - please make some impulses of it and upload them at noisevault. Then we all have acces to that amp!
People are often requesting guitar amp speakers too. Read more on impulses on www.noisevault.com

One other little catch, the beta doesn't work with AMD processors.ohm wrote: to use the impulses get "Revolverb Lite" from this link:

bit it does, though
I'm running it on my AMD Athlon XP1700+ right now.
I get an error message on plugin-load, but after that it works like a charm
<edit> your mileage may vary </edit>

Glad you like the preset, and I know you'll all be hooked on convolution
I sent the revolverb dev. a couple of emails a few weeks ago - no response. I am afraid the development might not continue... such a shame. It's really a cool way of bringing expensive gear inside your compact little low-cost studio. I dit try to convince the guy to continue his work - the nearest competitor is voxengo pristine space (130$) so it's not like it would be difficult to sell...
Some links:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~fokkie/IR.htm
great impulses. weird speakers and strange spaces. some of the downloads are in the altiverb format (macintosh .sit archives with mono, 24bit 44khz, Big-Endian raw sample data inside). They open and convert in soundforge.
http://altiverb.daw-mac.com/library.html
altiverb impulse library
again samples are in the altiverb format.
and noisevault.com of course

How bout it ppl? How are you using the groove function?
www.skirize.adbe.org/grooves.zip
thay are all set hard so you will have to use the "strength" paramater to set the amount of swing you want
Anyway enjoy the templates
