Song stops at 3.56

I have never had this before but a song I am working on is just stopping at 3.56. It keeps playing but the audio output mutes at 3.56. It is a simple song. I have a mixdown wav and a single vocal wav. Effects on the vocal only. So what could cause this to happen? It even does the same when I export a wav mixdown.

Are you running Win98 or using the FAT file system? Sounds like you're hitting the maximum allowable filesize. If that's the case, you can only solve this by using NTFS.

I don't think that is it. I am using XP and I have heaps of songs that go longer than 3.56. The drive that I record to IS using FAT32 but like I said I have not had this problem with other, longer songs.

Mix the song down and look at the size of the WAV file. If it's around 4Gb, that's as far as it can go.morelia wrote:I don't think that is it. If you've made longer songs before - did you recently change sample rates perhaps?

4gig
. No way. 40mb. I always use 44.1/16bit and this one is no exception.
The plot thickens hey? Thanks for your help. This is a real out of the blue problem from my point of view.

If I understand correctly, the song always stops at 3.56? When you play it directly from Tracktion and when you render it?
You could try to mute / solo the tracks to find out if it's in one of the tracks? (or probably you already did that?)

When did this start to happen? Right away after you imported the files? Prior to adding FX?
Try to:
1. Reload the waves
2. Check your automation (like master i.e.)
If this fails, try creating a new edit.

I gather that this is 3 minutes 56 seconds and not 3 hours 56 minutes. Not a stupid question as with the latter you will hit the FAT32 limit.

Probably should have mentioned this at the start. When the sound cuts out it never comes back. I have to "revert to saved state" to get the audio back online.
And it actually stops at 4.23 in T. Sorry. I was looking at the length of an exported wav file that I had chopped up
.
There are a few automation "active parameter curves". There is nothing at 4.23 that changes. Even so I wish there was a way to remove them from the "active" list. Is there?
I will go and try the things mentioned above. Thanks guys.

Problem seems to be solved. Though I don't know how.
I just muted all FX and it played through the 4.23 mark. I brought the FX back in 1 at a time. I got to the last one and thought it must be the problem but when I enabled it the song just kept on playing. Sounds like a Twilight Zone episode to me.
Thanks for all the help.

I'm having similar issues with an edit of mine. The offending plug-in always seems to be Vintage Warmer, but it doesn't always happen at the same time, it happens randomly. When it happens I have to disable it and then re-enable it and the sound comes back. The bitch is, I'm now trying to run another instance in the master section, and when the track VW goes, it takes out the one in the master section as well, so I lose all sound!

2 ideas come to mind. Either try disable/enable the plugin. You probably have already. Or maybe try running it in a rack. From experience I can say that simpler things have fixed the problem.
