So, how IS routing actually pronounced?
I was wondering about that allready....
Logically it'd be like in "Route 66" or so, but I heard many people pronouncing it more like "Ouch" or "Out" allready.

Does it depend on how it's written?
Is "routeing" even a legitimate spelling?
I seem to reed "routing" all the time (which would make the "out" pronounciation thing plausible)...

I'd really be happy if someone could tell me what the "official" pronounciation is like - "route" and "rout(e)ing" are used in german "tech speech" as well, and as I'm doing classes, I'd better know about this....

In the US we pronounce it ROW'TING, plus it's generally spelled routing in the US regardless of application, and would be spelled that way in the context of Reason.

Err... like "in a row"? More like an "o" then?
Before I thought about it I'd pronounce it with a "u" but as said before, I heard it in some "ou" contexts allready too. Is "o" another option?

Now, aren't we completely on topic?

That's what I thought, thanks.

Weird though - I mean, routing certainly derives from "route", which is pronounced with a "u" rather than an "ou".

"The signal takes this route (*u*), so my routing (*ou*) looks like this:..."
Weird, isn't it?

In the US they pronounce it ROW-TING but that doesn't make it "official"

There are other parts of the world :-o ...

...in which it is pronounced as in "Route 66", e.g. the UK, Australia... in fact most places other than the US :P

ALthough the US pronounciation is beginning to infect the rest of us, so that people all over are starting to ape the way the americans say it.

So there is no "official" pronounciation, any more than there is an official pronounciation for Tomato.

I'm sure that you will find this information useful. Now I'm off to hide :hihi:
