Deleting T1

I just got the Sonar 4 PE upgrade and due to the recommendation that a C:/ system partition must not exceed 50% drivespace and the fact I am hardly ever using Tracktion these days, I am uninstalling T1 temporarily i hope or at least until the T2 demo comes out when I will give Tracktion another chance. My question is are there any Tracktion progrsm folders or files I should save- I have Tracktion project (such as they are being all unfinished thanks to my inability to properly use this host) folders on my external back drive, so ain't worried about them. I have the paid for version btw.

Here's hoping T2 makes this all a short so long and and a final farewell.

You might want to export your settings in the misc tab. That way you can import your settings again when T2 gets here.

What? The whole Tracktion folder is only 14 MB, that's not even a drop in the hard drive ocean theses days, and if you dump the exemples folder the whole of Tracktion will only take about 7 MBs on your HD. I get emails bigger than that.
I think you're creating more hassle than anything else considering you have active Tracktion project that you won't be able to access once T is removed. But hey, what do I know.

You are right as my system partition is 10 GB. But still as I am not using T1 at all right now and I have no inclination to use it any more until I see a more useable version.

I very strongly urge you to backup your projects in 2 ways. It may seem a waste, but you'll probably be thankful in the end:

1. Back up the raw projects directory. Just copy it verbatim onto a disc (or multiple discs depending on how large it is!). The problem with this is that the edits contain directory tree information. So if you decide to fire them up again and the path isn't -identical-, the files may not be properly found. However, at least you know for sure that you have all your .wav files and edits later as a starting point if something goes wrong with #2:

2. EXPORT your projects as archives. This will mean that when you re-import them, new directory path information will be created and your edits will have all the proper pointers and so forth-- PLUS, if you happen to have used a file from elsewhere on your hard drive (and forgot to make a local copy), it'll archive those, too.

Now, #2 is obviously the preferred and most efficient way to go; however, if you have a few extra discs, it's worth doing #1 as well to have a redundant copy of the raw materials used (no pun intended!)

50% free on system drive? What sort of advice is that? Sure you need to keep some free for temporary files and also if you have the swap file on it, but 50% of a 10GB partition is *way* over the top.

Thanks Rich. I learned this some wheree a while back. I can't recall where.

For now I'll keep T1 as my C partition is 54% full after installing S4 - which is really amazing btw. I am already able to get much more done with it than I could with Tracktion - sorry.

i to like sonar! i started in cakewalk 6 so sonar did have a feel of home to it for me. a bit cpu hungry for my setup, but if it wasent then i would never have found tracktion

It may have held a bit more truth in the days of small hard drives where you needed to keep space for temporary and swap files. Create a separate partition for swap and temp (preferably a physically different drive to your audio one) and don't sweat it!

Thanks guys. Some aspects of Tracktion I like a great deal but the audio routing and midi workflow are not as I am used to in Sonar (user since PA9). I also find FLS much more inspiring than T1 where I invariably get stuck mid project and have to export the midi to take it further.

The swap file trick I know about and had it on a separate drive for long time now. Made a big difference. I do not know how to transfer my temp folder though - How is that configured in WinXP Pro?
