Ok, there's a grain of truth in this. I mean, if it's good enough for Satch...hink wrote:But certainly if I used drum loops to back up my playing, my expression on guitar will be the primary focus of attention anyhow...
If I like your guitar playing I will of course respect you for that no matter how you create your beats.hink wrote:what about those like me...ultimately when people listen to my music they will be listening to my guitar playing.

You know, I am tempted again and again here at KVR to point out that from a strict, old fashioned point of view ALL SEQUENCED, ELECTRONIC MUSIC THAT IS NOT EXECUTED IN REAL TIME lacks musicianship. And I mean fundamentally. I, personally do not think this. But I think it is something for people to think about when they get all snobbish about programming their own beats.Jafo wrote:

What an odd misreading of what I said. I listened to your song. I can't tell if your beats are made with prefabs or not, and ultimately why should I care? It may matter to you in terms of self-discipline, but why should it matter to me as the listener? Again I'll repeat (since it's all the rage apparently), man, I can really hear your sweat.platinumears wrote:However, the point someone made that they need to use loops because otherwise they can't compete with a 12 year-old, to be quite amazing!
How so? You implied it would be possible to completely recreate one of your tracks using prefab loops, which implies you have added nothing original of your own.. or doesn't it?shamann wrote: What an odd misreading of what I said.
I care, and thats the only reason I made it!shamann wrote: I listened to your song. I can't tell if your beats are made with prefabs or not, and ultimately why should I care?
Thankyou! But I knocked it up over the weekend, I don't think it would have been any quicker had I used loops and presets, even if that were possible.shamann wrote:[edit: enjoyed the tune by the way.
However, I know for sure that you aren't going to hear the same groove on 50 other records that year..shamann wrote:I can't tell if your beats are made with prefabs or not,
yeah but sometimes someone comes along who doesn't look down people, whether they are instrument playing musicians or not doesn't matter. Afterall when all is said and done how I feel about someones song and how the makes me feel isn't half as imporatant as how it made the artist feel and how they feel about their work. If someone were to use a loop and say they didn't use one, how would that matter too me, it aint my song...herodotus wrote:You know, I am tempted again and again here at KVR to point out that from a strict, old fashioned point of view ALL SEQUENCED, ELECTRONIC MUSIC THAT IS NOT EXECUTED IN REAL TIME lacks musicianship. Please don't get pissed. I make lots of sequenced music, and have nothing but respect for those who have mastered its subtleties. I just think that some historical perspective is in order when people who don't even play instruments look down on others who use tools they deem unworthy.
Good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music is good music.
And the tools used to make it don't matter.

No, the point I was making that it didn't matter in the end. If the 12-year-old kid gets the same end result as me, no listener is going to value my music just because I made it from scratch.platinumears wrote:How so?
