I don't suppose you know if the upgrade comes boxed with the plugins as well. Or even if there is an online purchase option?piaz wrote:The retail price is 159€ without VAT here, in a boxed set with plugins (that I could not test).
My first impressions on T2

"T2 is the first version of the acclaimed software that will be sold "out of the box" in retail stores and will be available in early March 2005."
This is a quote from the Mackie web.

It's hard to say. They mentioned the demo coming out. Well, that would most likely be a download. Whether or not you can authorize that version is yet to be seen. Although Beno did say that the copy protection is the same as T1. And that was getting a key from their site and applying it, so I'm sure it's possible.
With the plug-ins, I can't see them offering the whole package for download. It would be too big of a cost in server bandwidth. Even if they have their own server, it's going to slow it to a crawl, making people frustrated.
So I hope that we can download the program, then wait for the box to get the rest of the package. But it's hard to say.
Beno? Anything you could add?

I am sure they have more then one server LOL
Thou bandwidth is "not cheap" in our world , I am sure for Mackie it's peanuts.
Besides no matter what the cost it's still cheaper then the cost of a boxed version.
But we will see.

Especially when many people would have to set up port forwarding, considering the prevalance of wired/wireless internet gateways. It seems like half of the houses in my neighborhood has one of these, and setting up BitTorrent would probably be too complicated for these people, who don't even bother changing the default router password.

I dunno. A client I work with has started using torrents to distribute large files to multiple users and it works from every firewall and router I've tried, from Mac and Windows.Warmonger wrote:Especially when many people would have to set up port forwarding, considering the prevalance of wired/wireless internet gateways. I'd personally like a download only version with a download-only price. I can't think of one plug they are bundling that I absolutely need.

It's not so much that it doesn't download at all, but that the swarming nature is minimized because fewer people can make connections to each other.
That said, I would also like a small, plugin-free, downloadable version. I have plenty of bandwidth, but I'd rather not waste it on stuff I don't need. Not to mention the near-total lack of free space on my current system.

I guess it's true that a boxed version may cost them more than the download. But it does depend on if they run their own server. I would hope so, but it could be through a hosting service. I guess I'm just not sure. If they do have their own server(s), then it would be nice to offer the package as download. I guess we'll have to wait and see! Anyway it is, I'm upgrading.

I wouldn't expect Mackie to have a massive IT department with a huge amount of servers. It would likely need an investment in time and money to get it set up for T2, and I can't see that they have a lot more products that could be distributed that way. I'm guessing it won't happen.

Beno's said the Linplug RMIV plugin is the full 2 cd version. There's no way they'll offer that as a download. Bandwidth costs are too prohibitive. I expect the Tracktion2 exe to be available as a download, which you can then activate and use, and the boxed plugins will be shipped to you, with you probably paying shipping. It may be cheaper to buy a boxed version from stores.
There may be an option to buy online without the plugins, who knows? I'll probably buy the full plugin version, if there's the choice, as I fancy RMIV.
