Tracktion and FL Studio ReWire Question

Posted this on FL Studio LoopTalk but no one seems to have the answer, so I thought I'd try over here just in case anyone knows.
I've recently gotten into the world of Tracktion but I commonly ReWire FL Studio for some of the built in synths and the the mixer for the FPC. Every time I load up FL Studio in Tracktion as a ReWire client, I have to load a pre-made template of the 16 channels I want. That's fine for starting up and not too much of a hassle, but if I come back to the project at a later date, I have to load the file again. If I've modified it, I have to save it as another FLP (obviously), and if I exit Tracktion before saving in FL Studio, all the work is lost. FL Studio doesn't ask me to if I'd like to save before shutting down. Is there a way to either load up a default template everytime and/or be able to have FL Studio and Tracktion "remember" what FLP file I was working with when I start up Tracktion again? Thanks and sorry if this has been covered before.

Can i be a dumbass here? ok... i will... LOL
does that work? i mean as a vsti? Cuz, i've had problems in "other" apps, whereby changing the synths in fl studio doesn't give me a channel inside the other app for said synth.... i know it doesn't make much sense unless you've tried the same thing.

It works as a VST within Tracktion just fine, but it doesn't solve my problem. When I ReWire FL Studio into Tracktion, I load up my template that has 2 FPC channels, 6 3xOSC channels, 2 FL Keys channels, 2 BooBass channels, 2 Wasp XT channels, and then 2 empty channels for whatever else I need. Through Tracktion I can choose what channel to use, so I theoretically have 16 tracks of FL Studio ReWired into Tracktion with each reading off separate channels. I don't have this flexibility when using it as a VST since FL Studio only allows one instance of the program open at one time.

As a VST, FL can still process up to 16 channels of incoming midi and output either 2 or 16 channels of audio (depending on whether you use the "normal" or "multi" VST).Spirograph wrote:I don't have this flexibility when using it as a VST since FL Studio only allows one instance of the program open at one time.
To play channel 1 in FL, send midi data on midi channel 1. To play channel 2, send midi data on channel 2. And so on.
If you want each midi input to be coming from a different track in Tracktion, just put the FL VST into a rack, and put an instance of that rack on every channel that contains midi.

Haven't really messed around with Racks yet- still can't wrap my head around them. Should just sit down and learn the damn things, but I'm still getting used to using Tracktion exclusively. Anway, my "work around" as of late is to just keep a FL Studio FLP file associated with the track I'm working with. Since I date all my material, I'll have a Tracktion session called, say, 1.05.05 and then a FLP file in the same folder called 1.05.05.flp. Works for me so far.

I am amazed that FLS actually works for you as a Rewire slave. I haven't tried this in Tracktion for quite a while back when FLS first adopted Rewire. When I tried this my computer got tied ever crashes. So I didn't try again.

It's been fairly smooth. There are some weird bugs every now and then, though. Sometimes the list of channels coming out of FL Studio will get messed up and require a restart on FL Studio, and FL Studio will not open when ReWired if I'm running Tackywrapper as well. A bigger problem is that if I change the output channel, it won't affect the meter display in Tracktion. For instance, I'll have 3xOSC on channel 1 in FL Studio and Boo Bass in channel 2. Changing the output destination doesn't have any effect on being able to see the meter display, and without changing it all the meters are running, whether or not MIDI data is contained within that track.

Rewire can get hairy if you have conflicting versions of the rewire.dll on your system... this is one possibility as to why it might have gone wonkers on you.Beardedone wrote:I am amazed that FLS actually works for you as a Rewire slave. I hate how FL handles switching between the interface with rewire as I have accidentally minimized FL, after which I can't the GUI to come back up. Opps, sorry.. side rant!
