Merge only works for MIDI clips afaik.. :(
luka2807 wrote: but how do you know till which transient level clip should be sliced?
Its usually pretty easy to see the start of transients, especially if you are listening to it play back at the time..
luka2807 wrote:basicaly, this is how sensitivity slider in phatmatik pro works. If you move it more to the right then it will slice the softer transients and thus make more slices as well.
The technique in Tracktion is to snip at smaller transients! Try turning the gain up for the clip if they're too quiet to see easily (you can select all the clips and set them back to unity in one go afterwards).. but I usually find that the ear can
do a better job of identifying where a loop needs slicing than any piece of software, so then its just a matter of locating the points your hear and hitting "/".

This is one of those things that seems much harder than it is.. I think its more fun doing it this way tbh! The only thing I miss is linking the clips..

Just to let you know, this thread inspired this!

Well, I wasn't going to slice a loop and not make a tune with it!

OK, I did this. So far so good. The beats are sliced and the tempo is set at 98.55 BPM.
platinumears wrote:...then switch the tempo to the speed you want. The loop will still play in time
Now I set the tempo to 120 BPM and Tracktion's timeline changes to reflect the new tempo but the sliced clips aren't scrunched up. Are they supposed to be or do I have to drag and align them to the new beat divisions? Or am I doing something wrong?

Something must be wrong. Since I started this thread and reading the tips, I've been in beat slice heaven. It works great. Once I have the tempo switched to the destination tempo, I render just the 1 or 2 bar section to .wav, then import that .wav.

I've also been using SupaTrigga and splonki vst plugs to automatically switch up the order of the playback for automatic beat mangling.

If you go to a faster bpm, you should see the clips crowd together (you can see the start points overlap the ending points of the previous clips) and if you go to a slower bpm, they spread out, keeping their relative position in the bar as the native loop bpm.

OK, so something is wrong. But what?

Well,

I'm too dumb about the topic to be able to tell you. All I can say is that for me it worked exactly as promised in the thread.

Do you have any tempo changes in the edit? Could you be adjusting the wrong one, and leaving the sliced loop at the same tempo?

Post

same problem here. without tempo changes :?:
As I change the tempo the clips don't retain their relative positions within the bar.

No. In fact a Stepchild/Drumatic track in the edit plays at the faster tempo (as expected), but the sliced audio just stays where it is?!?

Post

When you first imported the wav, did you set the tempo to match that wav before editing?
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

OK guys. I found it. Go to timecode and check "remap clip positions when tempo is changed". Now it's working.

Yep. I used the set-tempo-based-on-clip thingy and it reset the edit to 98.55 bpm. Then I sliced it using the / key.

Strange.. it sounds as if there is a "time lock" parameter somewhere like Cubase's, which locks clips to absolute time rather than position in bar.. but I wasn't aware of such a setting in Tracktion. :?

I'm at work atm so can't check..

Look two posts above
