Had this dilema for a long time.
Once the Plate 140 reverb came out there was no dilema anymore UAD-1 was the one.
I am very happy with it.

I've never used the Powercore so I can't compare, but the UAD-1 is awesome. I'm going through major withdrawal right now because I only have my laptop with me so no UAD-1 for a long while. The compressors and EQs really are amazing. There is nothing like an 1176 on drums. I really like the reverbs too although I don't really consider them reverbs in the usual sense. I don't use them to add "reverb" to a track. They don't sound like that. Instead, they work best when you think about placing a track in an acoustic environment. Finally, the guys at UA are top notch. They are only concerned about quality in all things they do. Great products and great support. If you have a couple grand lying about, check out the 2-610 mic pre. It's amazing!

If only i did :D

the UAD-1 im intrested in is the £400 one (& that will take some saving :( )

but last night i did get to test both the UAD-1 & the tc power core on a pc using logic 5.5.1 :( (he wasent willing to put the tracktion demo on his studio pc :x )

& the UAD-1 made the power core look like a toy! but he did have the £800 UAD-1 & the £400 power core.

dose any one know how meny plugins the £400 UAD-1 can run at the same time time?

but after playing with the both of them i see the 2 are verry different & would love to be able to afford both (maby when tracktion makes me ritch with a No;1 hit...... well No;30 would do :D ) but for now im saving my pennies for T2 & the UAD-1,

give me a couple or years to save & i might just have one

still waiting for T2!! :D :D :) :D :D

£800 UAD-1 and £400 UAD-1 are the same cards... Only the number of provided plugins change...
The £400 UAD-1 must be the project pack ( 415 Euros in France :-o )

Yeah but they are usually really expensive as they are so specialised. Also, my mac doesn't have a PCIMCIA slot so I'm sol there.

I can't speak on behalf of the Powercore, because I don't own one (though one day I probably will, can one ever have too much horsepower?) but the UAD-1 sounds awesome.

My main reason for getting the UAD-1 was that I wanted to ease up on my system (mainly with reverbs and delays) and while I hear that the reverbs in the Powercore are great as well, I opted to have one good reverb (RealVerb Pro) with a slew of 'analog sounding' compressors and the EQ's - and holy nuts it rocks.

The LA2A, 1176SE and Pultec (I have to upgrade to the Pro... my demo ran out) sound fantastic. For instance, someone in another thread on KVR mentioned that throwing the Pultec with no EQ settings warms up a track, and boy does it ever.

With the sale/deal going on now - you can't afford not to get one. :)
