A trackball is a nice idea, though...
Are you playing sequenced parts? Or playing from the keyboard (Oxy-8 doesn't strike me as an ideal keyboard for playing except in the tightest of venues).

If you're playing live from the keyboard, check out Brainspawn Forte. You can pre-program your scenes (VSTI+VST chains, presets, etc) then switch scenes with the space bar or a MIDI Program Change command (which the Oxygen can send). You can also do splits (nice if you have 49 or 61 keys).

It's not a VSTi host but Reason is pretty easy on the CPU and v3 seems to have a lot of new features that are geared towards live performance.

I've seen in other threads that people are using energyXT for live performance

I haven't kept up with all the wonders of energyXT, but you might raise the question on that board.

I use a marble mouse all the time. They come for the forefinger or thumb. The thumb model is nice (if you have that modern thumb orientation) 'cause you get the scroll wheel.

My laptop is my DAW, so everything is on there, but I don't play live
