Tracktion+UAD PreFlex automation = lock-up.

Hola,

I just got off the phone with one of the lads at Universal Audio (I want to say Jorgen, but I may be wrong) and he was unable to re-create my system crashing, hell-raising issue with Tracktion 1.6.0.1 and a UAD-1 so I'm bringing my request for help here. ;)

Situation:
-1 audio clip with a PreFlex filter on the clip.
-Automation for Bent, PostHi, Morph and Color applied.
-The track with the clip is soloed and is looped.

Proposition and (personal) end result:
Now, dork around with changing amps and screw with knobs (technical stuff). If you're like me, your system will lock-up at a seemingly random time and force you to do a total system restart.

System specs:
Epox 8RDA+
AMD Athlon 2100+
1 GIG PC-2700 DDR RAM.
Windows XP Home (original OEM version, no Service Packs installed).
Aardvark LX-6.
10 GIG 5200 RPM internal HD.
40 GIG 7200 RPM Firewire HD.
UAD-1 (der?).

Wanted:
All the help I can get.

Thank you for your time and I pray to (insert diety here) that with your help, we can get through this.

I've never used the option.

I use it all the time.
It's very important when you play live and you want low latencies.
Especially with the UAD-1 since it's tripling the card latency.

_oswald. Did changing the realtime priority setting solve the problem?

I thought it did... I didn't have a single glitch last night... but just two minutes ago, lock up.

I don't know -what- the problem is. I'll just have to get rid of the PreFlex for now (I have a pal coming over tonight and the last thing I want is to risk the chance of a lock up while he noodles around on his guitar.)

Gah! It did it -again- except this time I had no instancse of PreFlex running.

I'm getting really, really frustrated as I can't seem to reproduce this in any reliable fashion. This time it crapped out with three instances of the DM1L (UAD's 'Delay' as part of the Channel Strip package), an 1176SE and one of the Channel Strip EQ's.

The only reason I mention the UAD plugins is that until I installed the UAD-1, I never had this problem. I don't know if it's a hardware problem (dying part that I don't know about at the studio rig) or a BIOS problem or... well, shit.

Please help me, it'll make Jesus happy.

Nope.

Everything looks normal, except that it locks up and goes 'beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep'.

Did you check PCI card latencies for all the cards in your system?

If not, try DoubleDawg: http://www.mark-knutson.com/t3/

Yes, none of them are changable besides the USB card (the UAD card is set to 255 and according to that site, that is what it should be set at as forced by UA).

And guess what? It locked up again, though this time it wasn't even in a section where UAD-1 processing was going on (it was just ReWire stuff goin' down).

Right now I'm going to update my BIOS and possibly upgrade to WindowsXP SP2.

Technology giveth and taketh away. :x

the uad card *should* be set to 64. the pci latency setting is available in the uad meter.

If your uad is set to 255 then I'm not surprised you have problems ;)

Kind regards

Boy this is funky. The UAD was set to some odd 160 some PCI integer in the meter. I just now set the PCI Bus Latency MIN_GMT to 64.

If this cleans it up, Dave, I'll have to buy 'ya a pint sometime.

Look forward to it ;)

The UAD gets seriously funky if you have the latency higher than your audiocard. Not surprising really ;)

Kind regards
