It's kind of amazing, how MIDI is a standard that to this day, is still on version 1.0. This tells me that it really doesn't have many flaws. But I wish there was a "standard" for software that would make every piece of software read, write, and everything else, the same way. Kind of like an SDK for MIDI. Then maybe we could have more compatibility, and less issues. I do hope that MIDI will be something special in T2. I think it will.

No, it tells you that change is expensive, for both manufacturers and consumers, so it will take a substantial technical leap (and high customer demand) over the current standard before we finally see a replacement for MIDI.koolkeys wrote:It's kind of amazing, how MIDI is a standard that to this day, is still on version 1.0. I agree that it would be expensive. But in 20+ years, nobody has made ANY improvements to MIDI. If it had any major flaws, someone would have at least tried to change it. MIDI does everything and more that it was intended to do.
Anyway, when MIDI was invented, it left room for expansion, but nobody ever expanded it. It could still be done, but as you said, it would be expensive. But it's been over 20 years and no updates yet. I guess it's here in it's present form for a while. How many version 1.0's are still in that version 20 years later? Must be nice, eh? To get it right so well.
Anyway(again), I'm glad we have MIDI. It's a powerful, easy to use, efficient way of doing a ton of different things. Most people would be surprised what would be changed if we didn't have MIDI.
