On my 667 G4 Powerbook w/768 MB RAM:
Live4 opens in 90 seconds with my default template
Reason opens in 30 seconds with my default template
Tracktion opens in 10 seconds with a full plugin scan
Live and Reason are setting up some gnarly stuff in the time they take to start up, though Tracktion doesn't seem to take too much time opening any edit.
I haven't timed my PC, but I imagine it would take longer since I have way more plugs on my Windows box.

memories of entering hex into my sinclair spectrum from mags like sinclair programs' or 'your computer' for hours on end (think of it as a form of meditation...
i can't get nostalgic...

I remember this from our C64 back in the days... I had to read and my brother typed the hexLunch Money wrote:I remember writing those lines of code.Even worse, anybody remember entering programs from Compute! magazine in a hexidecimal editor?
You did NOT want to eff that one up. And sometimes even when the checksum worked, the program didn't. After hours of copying. If you could sucker a friend into reading out the numbers for you, it was heaven.

You have more RAM than CPU Clock???braj wrote:On my 667 G4 Powerbook w/768 MB RAM:Live4 opens in 90 seconds with my default template
I'm not sure whether MAC systems can be tuned BIOS-wise etc. but if they can, you should let some professional have a look.

Tracktion loads in about 4 SECONDS if you ......
uncheck the "always check for new plugins at startup"
in the Settings page.

G4s have shorter pipelines than P4s, so, a 667 G4 is more akin to a 1.4 P4. Anyway, there's no relationship between MB and MHz from what I understand. The RAM is going at 133MHz so it isn't 'more' than the CPU, if that's what you thought.declassified wrote:You have more RAM than CPU Clock???braj wrote:On my 667 G4 Powerbook w/768 MB RAM:Live4 opens in 90 seconds with my default template![]()

I'm using a P2-400 with 512MB RAM. My router is a P3-750 with 128MB RAM. For basic computer usage, people make use of extra RAM much more than extra clock cycles. For some reason though, it is still pretty unusual for megs of RAM to outnumber megs of, err... hertz.declassified wrote: You have more RAM than CPU Clock???![]()

That's not what I thought. I know the RAM clock is mostly slower than the CPU clock, it is rather comparable, if not equal to the CPU's FSB (or half or double). The CPU FSB is then taken about 11 times (the multiplicator) and you get the CPU clock. This is as far as I know how it works.braj wrote:The RAM is going at 133MHz so it isn't 'more' than the CPU, if that's what you thought.
I made my own comparison. When I saw your post I thought: "Who's PC on earth has a higher number of RAM(megs) than CPU clock(megahertz)???" so I pretty much compared apples to oranges. But I'm not into MACs so I didn't know that the the "Speed per Mhz" value is much higher.
Just wondering: How complex is your default template? Is it a halfway finished song?

Loads in 4 or 5 seconds on my PC (with plugin scan off)
I don't know why people are leaving the option to scan every plugin on by default? Surely you don't install new plugins everytime you open Tracktion?
Best to keep it turned off until you install something - then do a manual rescan with the option "just look for plugins that are new or have changed" which takes a couple of seconds.

You've obviously never scanned my plug-in folder!aMUSEd wrote: then do a manual rescan with the option "just look for plugins that are new or have changed" which takes a couple of seconds.

In tracktion tell it not to rescan for vst plugins at startup that will reduce your startup time.
