Someone tried explaining it to me once before, but other than seeing the names of the kit pieces to the left of the editor, I don't see why you can't do everything a drum editor does from within the piano roll.
I guess if there's a one-click flam (instead of programming it or having a flammed sample) or other special effects, that could be useful.

You can do everything, its just much slower and more tedious.
Trust me, I use one every day.

Drum editors aren't far from piano rolls.. but the listed features of T2, are simply improvements to the piano roll. It's not a dedicated drum editor where you can enter names for individual hits and what not.. or where you can collapse tracks to only utilize the notes in your drum kit. Piano-roll as in.. it follows the layout of a piano kayboard.rpc9943 wrote:locked notes, zooming what are you expecting? that in itself is almost identical to anything else out there. Plus a step editor. I mean come on.

Also, for clearification.. it says that T2 provides step recording.. meaning punch a note and it advances to the next. Nothing about a step editor.
With fixed note lenghts tho, surely this does resolve a lot of that... but collapsable tracks a la Live would be pimpin'

ok so besides drum names what do we need in the midi editor? seriously. I mean once this new roll comes out we'll be able to do locked note lengths. thats all we need

I've posted my drum grid wishlist a couple of times before, but what the hell:
Renameable lanes.
Rearrangeable lanes. (eg move GM hats next to GM shaker)
Deletable lanes.
Individual snap settings per lane.
Individual default velocity / note length settings per lane.
Ability to view / edit velocity on a per-lane basis.
Ability to re-map incoming MIDI notes.
