Hello,

When I begin to compose a new song (or arrange an old), I often use a GM-GS bank in SF2 (with SFz), for more simplicity.
Yesterday, I've found on http://www.soundfontdepot.com/ a good bank named "A340sf" (35 Mo).
But there's many banks on the net and I've only an old connexion. I can't all download for try...
Do you know some good banks (GM-GS or not) that you like very much ? :?:

Hum... nobody use banks.
Anguish and loneliness.

OK, I shall try every day. :troll:

Daniel,

Ah, the quest for a good GM soundfont for free. I used to be on the same quest, but realized that 99% of the sounds in a GM set, I never ever used. I gave up the quest.

Instead, I looked for great examples of the instruments that I actually do use (drums, organs, electric pianos, bass).

I liked the TamaRockStar soundfont from the soundfonts.it site for drums. But mostly I'm using loops now, instead of midi programmed drums. Much happier with the results, and now that I know how to do beatslicing in T, it's even better.

Organs - well, I use Rumplerausch ZR3 soft synth now, or any of the other 3 or 4 decent B3 emulators that are free.

Electric pianos - I'm done with soundfonts for these as well. Mr. Ray's EP kicks all of their butts in a major way.

Bass guitar - I bought a cheapo SX bass guitar and am learning how to play it - with much more realistic sound than what I would ever get from a soundfont.

So, my quest for a great GM soundfont bank ended basically when I started using Tracktion.

If you are still so inclined, the one I was happiest with (combination of quality of sounds and small size for my old dial-up connection) was the jnsgm 2.0 bank from the Hammersound site. Here's a link to this one and a boatload of other GM fonts at the Hammersound site.
