Compression and CPU

I have been using Tracktion to do mixdowns of various audio projects lately. And while I have never had any problems (running up to as many as 20 plugs at once!!) Something does seem seems weird: whenever I drag a compression filter into a tracks signal path, or into the stereo out, the cpu meter goes green, even before I press play!!!

Is this normal?? Like I said, no actual performance difficulties, but it just seems weird.

Got a Pentium4? Its probably denormalisation then...

That would be the e-to-e button (end to end)it makes all filters active for live play back or what ever else you want
