Anybody know if any exist? I'd be happy to worship the ground you walk on
Here's an idea for the devs. Create a drum sampler based on Impulse responses of these machines....
Yes, its as simple as that. It'd be nice if you could do a collection of them, maybe at different volume/sampling levels, and different sample rates.deastman wrote:Hmmm. I sold my Emax years ago, but a friend of mine still has one. It might be interesting to try making an impulse of it at 10K sampling rate. I've never tried making an impulse before... what do I have to do? I assume I have to sample some sort of test tone and then play it back out into my PC or something?
To which my response was:McLilith wrote:Would there be any interest in Ensoniq Mirage impulses? (It will take awhile before I can get around to it.)
Also, do you want to capture the input response of the sampler, the output response, or do you want a capture that reflects the total effect of both input and output anomalies?
take care,

I say again, thanks good sir!mjones4th wrote:Yes!!!Take your time... I'm not going anywhere.
Any, or all, of the above.
I guess my preference would be the sum total effect. But I'm a beggar, and as such...
Thank you muchly, kind sir, for anything you're willing to give!
The S950 is a bit convoluted to operate, especially compared to the MPC60. Put it on ebay, you'll get around $200-250, depending on condition, for it. It has the same sound engine (more or less) as the MPC60. That's why its valued. Its considered the poor-man's MPC60 in Hip Hop circles.kritikon wrote:Old samplers are still revered?
Hey, I've got an Akai S950 with extra RAM (the maximum of a huge 2.25MB) sitting on my top shelf doing nothing but holding the frame in place.
How does US$250 sound? (and no, I won't pay the shipping).
I occasionally think about using it as a drum machine, but it's not worth the extra 8 patchbay spaces being used up. Maybe if I keep hold of it, it'll become a classic and I can sell it to a synthesiser museum
Have you tried to mix a bit reduced sample and a real one ?mjones4th wrote:In the hip hop circles, the MPC60 and SP-12 are revered for the sound that they impart on drum samples. Its an in-your-face, gritty yet smooth, kind of sound, that can't be reproduced with bit reduction and sample rate reduction alone.
I haven't yet tried that one. I find that I can get pretty close using just the bit reduction in RM IV, but we're talking Steinberg Model E, not Minimonsta, not even MiniMoog V.lex_strooder wrote:Have you tried to mix a bit reduced sample and a real one ?mjones4th wrote:In the hip hop circles, the MPC60 and SP-12 are revered for the sound that they impart on drum samples. Try to eq them with the boosted high from the real one and the mid and low from the bit reduction one, this is the way I hear people do it these days![]()
