take a closer look to paladiums tip. this is not for latency settings of your soundcard. it's for setting lower PCI_Latency of the graphiccard and this is the ultimate tip !!! it works on all PC's with crackling soundcards i had to fix for my friends

Also, when you made the switch, did you happen to change your normal bit depth for recording? If you set it higher, than it will use more CPU and crackle more. After I went to 24-bit from 16-bit I had to tweak around a bit more in order to get crackle-free performance.

i get the same thing. S'funny. I've always put it down to the ASIO drivers in guitarport as it was only when i installed this that problems started occurring. S'fine using directsound. Latency doesn't seem to be the problem so far as I can see.
