Show Me th Name! Correct Automation Data Naming

is this feature expected with T2?

Tracktion does not show the correct automation data for happy twidling, for ie, I want to tweak cutoff but all I get is the guessing game (unnamed), with the same naming and inconsistent order for all plugins.

Or do I need to tick an option somewhere??

Hope that was clear.

I think I understand you; some plug-ins are not diplaying logical names for their automatable parameters. Is this correct?

If so, this is something that Tracktion has no control over. The parameter names displayed by Tracktion for a given plug-in parameter are provided by the plug-in. If the developer did not name the parameters logically, then there is nothing Tracktion can do about it. The order of the parameters is also provided by the plug-in so again, there is nothing we can do.

Which plug-ins in a particular are you having problems with?

Mr Sleep,

I've not had any trouble with automatable paramater names with any effect or instrument that I've used.

Some of them are overwhelming, how many things can be tweaked with automation curves.

Make sure that you go to the plugin's "submenu" on the automation curve list, where the full list of tweakable parameters shows up.

Even for rack filters, where you have several plugins in a rack, all of the parameters will show up properly.

Beno, if you're watching this thread - is there a way to allow more than one automation curve to be displayed at once per track? I find myself swapping between curves often on some filter sweeps that I do with Frohmage, where it would be cool to overlay the cutoff and resonance curves and see/hear how they interact.

I would like to have option to display other info in the bottom info window. There is plenty of room there for showing and editing multiple curves (with bezier handles) for example. Ideally it could show multiple curves (or multiple eq's) from multiple tracks.

If either is not soon to be implemented, at least some sort of key command to toggle between active curves in the selected track. Right now you have to go in a sub-menu EVERY time you change from one curve to another. It is very clumsy if you want to edit curves in relation to each other.

Hello and thanks all for helpin out.

"Make sure that you go to the plugin's "submenu" on the automation curve list, where the full list of tweakable parameters shows up."

This is within the piano edit screen yes? After expanding the view, tools appear on the left. I then pick the "knob" icon, then controllers.. But I still get the same parameter naming wether its polyibit, iblit, synth1, mercury1, imposcar.., its all the same for me???

in Logic & Live I have none of these issues!

I would realy like to settle with 1 application.

Could it be because Im using the demo?

I just loaded up PolyIblit: all the parameter names seem correct (Osc1 Waveform, Osc2 Transpose etc..)

I tend to create new tracks when I want to view multiple automation parameters (any track can show automation for any filter, in case you hadn't realised: a track can be used simply as a "lane" for a particular automation parameter.. 8) )

My appologies.

I was trying to automate from the wrong window!

Anyways its all clear now..., I had to click on that little "A" on the right to get the correct naming.

8)

You realise you can also drag the "A" symbol and drop it onto the filter you wish to automate: this makes finding the right parameter much quicker in my experience.

Thanks platinumears.

Thats a nice one.

Just one more question before I start a new thread and bore the sox off everyone, how do I use multiple filter parameters on the single track?

Im not sure I quite understand your previous post.., Do you mean I need to create another track and select the same filter? presuming not.

Oh... A nice idea! Hadn't thought of that... thanks

Yeah just to reiterate. Automation curves are NOT attached to a track at all. You can view any automation curve on any track. So simply use two adjacent tracks to view any two pairs of automation you want (such as cuttoff and resonance). And as platinumears explained, you can even make a new track and only use it for displaying automation if you don't want it to appear over a clip. I know this is different then many DAWs but it is much more powerfull.

And by the way, adding bezier curves is a little more complicated then simply adding a control or two to the properties area. It is a great suggestion and one we would like to implement (along with some other automation enhancements) but we couldn't do everything at once so you won't see this in T2.

Beno,

Care to elaborate just a little on this tip? Maybe point us to a place in the manual or put up some step by step instructions?

Sure, lets say you have an EQ on Track with some automation.
If you click on the automation A for Track 2, you can view the automation for the EQ from Track 1. So the EQ is on a different track then the automation. If there are multiple parameters automated for the EQ, you can view these on Tracks 3, 4, etc. So even though I only have a single automated EQ on Track 1, I can view their parameter curves on any track I like. Make sense?

Unfortunately, the existing tracktion documentation, doesn't have any info on this. But the new documentation for T2 will cover this and everything else in depth.

This audio track has its volume & pan automation visible on two extra tracks:

Just <CNTRL> T for a new track, and drag the "A" to whichever filter you need, and choose the parameter.

If you have a huge complex vst with many parameters, then simply record a little automation by twiddling the knob, and the parameter will then appear green in the list. This can also help when the vst doesn't have entirely helpful parameter names..
