Just curious, do you quote him just in case he later goes and changes his posts (as is his m.o.)? I've seen you do this often.

And ron, get over yourself. Lunch Money is right, you've changed the way you troll, but you're still trolling. Saying koolkeys is screwing up the forum is funny, coming from you. If someone asks a question, what's wrong with just providing a polite answer? Why submit your crass nonsense at every opportunity?

While I may not be helping things, I know I'm not alone in what I said. LM is right, as you've changed, but not for the better. You're still acting like an idiot.

You think that I am messing up the forum? I think you need to check again. Check my last two weeks of posts, then check yours. I'll put money on that fact that you haven't really helped anyone for the most part. And don't go back and change anything. Nobody will believe you.

This is the last I will say about you in this particular topic. I have nothing against you personally Ron. I'm just speaking my mind on how you post around here. I'm speaking to the troll, not the man. Peace man, have a nice night.

nah ... nothing as sneaky as that ...

... i do this asll the time - if youve not noticed i change the emoticon in my little "slainte ... " signoff to reflect the mood of my post ... if ive nothing to add but an emotional reaction to the post quoted then you just get the quote followed by the cedilla and then the signoff that shows my reaction ...

... rons post amused and irritated me in equal parts (cant stand hypocrisy but found it funny the irony was apparently lost on the poster himself - or perhaps that was the plan to make us all think that ??? )

either way ... sometimes i wish us main forum mods had some power down here too ...

I must confess that this Start/Stop marketing is odd. The buzz has nearly all gone, the striptease reveal stopped, no public beta test started yet. Odd.

Compare this to the stuff Popellerheads are doing for a fairly content-lite release of Reason 3. Flash movies, countdown clocks etc.

Wheel seems to be off the proverbial Mackie marketing wagon.

Yes I know this is a "Are we there yet ?" Groundhog post (look I'm hitting myself) but it strikes me as fairly futile to drum up all the buzz around NAMM and then fade away. (Awaiting the flame torrent)

Post

ON the other hand I've noticed that Mackie are hitting the magazine media big-time with T2 now. Across the latest issues of SOS, FM, CM and MTM there are two-page spread colour advertisements for the full Mackie range, prominently featuring T2, and single full page colour advertisements just featuring T2 and Spike. In some cases both sets of advertisement in the same magazine issue.

Also I was amazed to see in the News sections of the magazines the prominence that has been given to Mackie's NAMM T2 announcement...

In both MTM and SOS, T2 is given Top NAMM story! In SOS the top half of the first news page is given to Alesis, then T2 is given the bottom half of that first page. In MTM the top half of the first news page is given to a general story that NAMM took place in Anaheim, etc, and the rest of the page is given over to T2. News of Kontakt 2, Project5 2, and all the other NAMM announcements from M-Audio, Ableton etc are on subsequent pages

So I think here at KVR we had the "heads up" on what was going on, but now Mackie are taking more time to build up the hype in the wider music tech community, which is perfectly sensible.

I do wonder when the beta is going to happen, mind you. There's no point in having a public beta unless you plan to respond to the feedback and bug reports that you get. I can't see how that can be reconciled with a March release for T2.

Lessons can I think be learnt from two recent examples of public betas I have been aware of/participated in: Live 4 and Reason 3.0...

In the case of Live 4 the public beta lasted for around a month. A ton of feedback was given to Ableton, much of which they appeared not to act on prior to the on-schedule release of Live 4. As a result there have been a further four updates - mostly bugfixes rather than improvements - since the main launch of v.4.0. This has caused some disattisfaction among users, to put it mildly, and there are still a number of issues with Live 4 that the Ableton team seem unable or not concerned to address.

By way of contrast, the Reason 3.0 beta started around last October/November. Not until mid January did the Props start putting out "Release Candidates" which they hoped had resolved all the issues raised by users. And it wasn't until the fourth release candidate that they were happy at last to confirm the 10 March release date. In other words, the public beta announced in October has taken - including allowing time now for manufacture and distribution of CDs/Boxes - a period of five months. ut you can bet your bottom dollar that Reason 3.0 will be bug free and perfect at what it advertises/does.

Although doing a public beta properly and sincerely is a lengthy process, better in my view to go down the Propellerheads route than the Ableton one.

I have no reason to think that the Tracktion beta should take less time than the Reason one, however. In fact, as Tracktion hosts all manner of 3rd party plugs, it is likely to take longer than Reason 3 if Mackie are as concerned as the Props are to realease software that actually works. This would mean a release of T2 in late Summer 2005 at the earliest.

My fear/concern is that we WILL see T2 earlier than that, and that testing will not be sufficiently thorough.

Seems strange spending money on advertising a product that you can't buy yet.

I've said this a few times before. There will not be a public beta. That was a typo. The demo will be available when the product is available in March.

oh

i thought the plan was always that registered tracktioneers would be given the opportunity to beta T2...

Post

i definitely remember beno saying that 'public beta' was an accidental typo that should have read 'demo' (i can easily see how those keys were hit by mistake :hihi:) but i don't remember hearing an announcement that went against the 'weeks following namm' release of the demo :( afaik that hasn't been pointed out to us til now
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

I didnt miss that. figures.

Then everyone messes the forums up. I think we should have a beno "this is where we are now" statement.

So an innocent question was asked:

A backhanded remark comes thusly:

Yet the original question gets answered from Mackie themselves:
beno wrote:... The demo will be available when the product is available in March.
Ron, it looks like your Murphy's Law post was inaccurate. The information is now available to be searched because it has now been answered. Your belittled post helped nobody, but the answer got answered by Mackie.

Not only that...you continue to not read the posts and you say:
rpc9943 wrote: ...I think we should have a beno "this is where we are now" statement.
...not noticing that Ben answered your completely ironic question 5 hours earlier. Why is it Ironic? Because it is the very question that you gave such a smart alleck answer with at the start of the thread!

Let people ask questions. If you don't want to answer them, then just stop typing on the keyboard. Its simple.
