as seen in ALL other apps without public betas. it was one of the best things of t1 that jules have reacted on many people feedback.

you know that T2 is the result of the feedback from us Tracktioneers...right?

but you're right, I'd like to play with it right now *gg*

I disagree. The buzz-cut approach is far better. Make huge buzz, and dont release it till 2 months later.

I'd have liked to have seen a public beta, too, but given our particular community--and you know this is true--there would be a 'too many cooks in the kitchen' attitude prevailing. I wouldn't want to be Jules sorting through 200+ people's reports and requests. In order for it to be feasible, he'd have to hire a team of people just to administer and keep track of bug reports and feature requests.

Wow, way to stay positive Ron.

I don't feel that a public beta is necessary. Really, T2 is just built off of what made T1. It's engine is already stable, and alot of the kinks worked out. And LM is right, it would be hard with a software like Tracktion. It's so unconventional that you will have too many opinions to sort through, and in the end, nobody will be happy.

I like to think of T1 being the beta test. Yeah, it's a full release version, but over the past couple years, anyone who has followed Tracktion will see that it's been kind of like a beta test. Even before I bought T, I was always reading and watching on in amazement as things got solved.

I have faith that Jules and Mackie will give us a strong product. Just because other software did or didn't do something, doesn't mean it's better. Hey, look at T1. It didn't go by the "rules" and now it's getting more popular than ever.

'public beta' is often used as a marketing gimmick by a lot of developers to drum up early support and gauge interest. I'm not sure how much usable QA data is accumulated from 'public' testing. Usually it takes as much time to sift through as it would to professionally test anyway. I work as a QA lead so I don't think I'm too off. I'm happy they aren't doing that.

I do wish the 'striptease' would continue with bigger, better screenshots and more in-depth descriptions of new features and plugins.

Well, whether it was a mistake not to make the beta public is not for me to say, but it would not have been a mistake to MAKE it public...'coudn't have cost anyone very much, and if Ableton has adopted this way of doing it, I frankly wouldn't doubt their purpose and reasons.

It would have been nice, if nothing else, fo all the people who have waited for a real long time.

There will probably (and understandably) be a number of bugs initially which will be ironed out by the wider user base.

Whatever.
