Audio Clips Playing Simulteneously

Hello There,

Being primarily a Pro Tools user, when I re-record audio regions on the same track, I always want to hear the newly recorded audio, not the older versions. This is the standard approach in Pro Tools, which is exactly what I want.

But, in Tracktion, if I record a kick drum track, then record over it on the same track, I can hear both the new and old audio clips. This is useless to me. All I want to hear is the new audio clip.

What am I doing wrong? What parameter do I have to change to only hear the most recently recorded track?

I'm getting a bit frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Select the audio input icon, and change the "record mode" parameter to "replace old clips in edit with new ones".

Does what it says on the tin really, except its all non-destructive, so none of your original recordings are affected, and you can always slip-edit the old clip to restore the original version if you need to..

But if you decide to try one of the older takes later on, you will have to search through the file browser in the projects tab, right?

I do have an additional question.

In Pro Tools, I have a feature that allows multiple takes in the same track. I can scroll up and down a list to choose the audio region I wish to hear. Then, the newly selected region is placed in the exact location for me to hear. This is done without going back to the main audio region list to pull a region (clip) out of the list and placing it on the track.

Can the current version of Tracktion do this?

Thanks.

No, Sorry. I tend to build up the takes on seperate tracks.. its pretty quick to copy & paste the track as a whole (including any filter chain on the end) and delete the clips ready for a new take.

I think a lot of people are hoping for that in V.2

This "alternative takes" feature, I believe is an essential part of multi-track recording. Your workaround is fine, but this feature needs to be implemented in T2. Otherwise, I will probable have to move to another platform. Obviously, I don't want to spend any more money on additional Pro Tools hardware as it is generally of inferior quality to Apogee, Metric Halo, RME Hammerfall, etc.

So, my recording scenario is as follows, Tracktion using a Metric Halo Mobile I/O interface, recording audio in a firewire drive, going back to my studio, plugging the drive into my Pro Tools TDM system for mixing and editing.

Any comments on this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Personally, I'd ditch the TDM system and mix & edit in Tracktion!

Only semi-serious of course! Your scenario sounds workable to me..

Come to think of it, you're probably right!

Why should I have to depend on any internal processing cards (a great way for Digidesign to make more money), when computers are getting faster and faster and faster?

All I really need is a very good A/D converter, and digital audio software that can be moved from one computer to another.

Best Regards.

Re working with alternate takes, I agree it's a huge part of tracking for a lot of people; I know it certainly is for me. Thankfully, T2 will offer this as a feature (Attn Jules: Please implement it for MIDI recording as well). I didn't see where anybody mentioned the blurb on the Mackie Tracktion page, so here it is:
LOOP RECORDING
Got a client who can't sing their way out of a paper bag? Or perhaps an overzealous lead guitar player? No problem. Tracktion 2 includes "loop record mode" which makes it easy to record multiple passes and compile the best of each into the perfect take.
