I voted #1. I almost always prefer an alias free sound, but this is a strange case. I'm not sure what synth you were using, but it had dull high frequency response IMO. Probably to compensate for the aliasing at 44.1; if it were naturally brighter, the aliasing would stick out like a sore thumb.

Mr M the 96khz 1 is allready in the file...read the first post. Neither can be origional as its an export from the Korg vsti.
One was done at 44 one was done at 96 then resampled at 44.
No gain change, compression or anything else was done.
It's not really of which sound you would use over the other...maybe I should have put.."which sound has the most detail".

What I was hoping to hear, is the original 96 kHz version, before it was resampled to 44.1 kHz. I have yet to hear that.Spaceman Sounds wrote:Mr M the 96khz 1 is allready in the file...read the first post. Neither can be origional as its an export from the Korg vsti.

Slightly different approach not as loud

a 96 original would be cool to see.

If you want to know which has the most "accurate" detail, I still vote for the second half of the demo.
This reminds me a bit of what used to be said about old high-end Tandberg cassette decks. They supposedly had slightly less high frequencies on playback, but the highs were supposed to be more accurate and detailed than most other tape decks. Supposedly, the extra high frequency content in many other brands, came at least partially from distortion of the original high frequency content.
take care,
McLilith

I wonder what your setup was; did you use a VSTi with different sample rates, or are all factors in the source the same?
Think black box; you didn't by any chance create the sound in the same piece of software that recorded it?

I'm not asking to hear the original.
I'm only interested to read here what source you used, and how things were connected.

Imagine you use a 22 kHz source, record that once @ 44,1 and once @ 96 ; which would sound better, or would they sound the same?

ahh cool thats easy
Nuendo 2 with Korg Legacy cell with preset 004 Air Swell Pad. And just exported the midi file at 96khz.
Then just used Voxengo R8Brain to resample back to 44.1khz.

Not sure on recoding wavs all I know is that fx and vsti's sound a lot (better inmy view) different when exported/played back at higher sample rates. The Nord Plays back at 96khz as does the Alesis Ion I think, all the best mastering plugins from Uad-1 do it.

Actually, if I had to choose between 1 and 2 for use in a track, i'd simply pick 2 and boost the highs a bit, assuming i wanted it to take a "lead" position. Otherwise I'd go with 1.
