Yup, this is a tough question, and i'm not really sure what i should think. Of course I want the people creating music to be able to make a living, but sometimes i can get mad thinking of what the music industry are up to.
Munchkin
You have some nice ideas, but it sounds so close to what is happening with the swedish regulations. We don't pay for what we download, but the music industry lobby has managed to get laws about tax on storage media to make up for "lost sales". This does of course not mean that i'm allowed to share anything. ´The purpose is more money for the big ones within the music industry.
And i really do not like the thought of having to pay Madonna and the likes for burning the music i make to a cd.
I am not saying that we are there yet, but at some point right/wrong is not the same as legal/illegal!
The great music copyright debate.

Okay, this provides me with a wonderful opportunity to rant.
I just bought a freshly remastered c.d. of Led Zeps Physical Graffiti. Hadn't heard it in years and was really looking forward to it. I put it in my computers c.d. drive and got all excited. (I have been trying to follow whyterabbyts suggestion of listening to everything on my monitors for the sake of perspective). Well windows media player tried to open and guess what? My p.c. crashed!
Assuming that this was in some way my fault I rebooted and tried again. Same result. So I tried other c.d.s, no problems. And then I remembered reading about copy protection not letting you play audio c.d.s on your computer. Oh the rage that did course though my system.
Now I have heard about the black marker trick. And in any case, we have a fairly decent stereo setup in our living room. But, goddamit, this thing cost 30$!!! For a recording made in 1975!! And this is the third time I have paid for this album!!! (once on vinyl, once on cassette, and just yesterday the c.d.)
How DARE these bastards assume that I am a criminal??
I have NEVER had such an urge to partake in p2p as I did when I was looking at that f**king error message on my monitor screen. (And no, I still haven't partaken in filesharing, nor do I intend to). But this sort of meaningless "f**k You, customer" (meaningless because with a little effort I could have run some rca cables and been filesharing in less than an hour) is exactly the sort of rear guard rudeness that makes the industry so despicable.
Rant concluded.
