I've just had a listen to the retro-gs01 demos and they sound just like the real thing! Took me back to 83 ! The GUI looks real cute too. For the money you're asking I gotta get me one and for the price of a pint the gs-02 drum machine too. (I liked the remix of Mr Do's Castle by the way.)saulc12 wrote:
And as for softsynth options, how about retro-gs01, it is cheaper and easier to use than quadrasid and is still very SID like and very powerful.

coolall you need is 64hdd and a $15 dollar cable and you run programs off your pc's hardware directly into the commodore. You can hack a midi cable to get audio ins and outs for the sid. Shouldnt caost you more than 16 dollars for a working sid solution using the following:
prophet64
64hdd
the x-cable

Electrosound 64 was great. My first soft synth when I was about 12kencanvey wrote:I used to use Electrosound 64, to interface with the sid chip, I remember getting a fantastic thunder sound :O) ahhhh the good old days ;O).
I was using it not so long ago to gathr some samples. I dug out my old C64 & copy of Electrsound but the C64 had a problem where I just got a humming noise instead of sound. Found a replacement C64 on e-bay which I won for £8! Good 1.
I'm definitely going to give that Retro-GS01 a go though. sounds cool & only £12 including the Retro-GS02 drum m/c. Sweet.

For what it's worth, there's a Moog 'song producer' midi interface for the C-64 currently up on EBay.

Bought Retro GS01 & GS02 last night. Definitely one for the C64/SID fans. Some of the patches that come with the GS01 sound very authentic & it seems to have plenty of scope for all kinds of interesting sounds all with that SID like quality
The GS02 was a good adition as well espially costs only £2 if you buy both VSTi's together. Well worth £12
