Strange render problem you should all know about!

I Just rendered a mixdown and I get different results depending on the latency setting of the sound card!

Am I making an incorrect assumption because I was under the impression that rendering was sound card independant.

I have an Edirol UA-25 and at high letancy settings when using SIR in a rack I can hear an echo in the mixdown that is not there when I press play. The echo disappears when using lower latancy.

Why should this be?

Thought this might of made more of an impact!

Lots of people use SIR right?

I mean, you get a different mixdown depending on what latency your sound card is set to, that seems quite relavent.

Beno - Is this a bug? Seems like it could easily be sorted out.

Do you have any frozen tracks? Its happened to me before if so.

Try unfreezing the track(s), re-freezing (if needed) and re-exporting..

Post

No, no frozen tracks.

Just simple audio tracks with a SIR rack on one of them.

Maybe try rendering the SIR track first?

I solved this by using 3.2ms on my sound card for rendering (even though it would crackle if I played the edit).

I just thought the comunity would be interested and maybe save people a headache or two.

And let Beno and Jules know so they can fix it :)

Is it perhaps because you have SIR in a rack and somehow that doesn't allow for the latency compensation? What if you just put SIR as a filter instead?

That would solve things no doubt (I'll try it), but export does not do what it says on the tin!

OK so if SIR is on a Rack (which don't have PDC, etc) that would be your problem.

I use SIR (lovely reverb!) but either as an track insert or more usually directly on the master channel (first plug, before Final Mix). I also use the UA-20 (predecessor to your interface). Never had the problem you mention.

Beno/Jules - will racks in T2 have full PDC?

That is no doubt a factor, but..

How come it plays fine (no echo)?

I've read this whole thread and found no answer to the fundamental question: Why would the audio card settings bear ANY relation to the rendered file? Is this a bug or is it normal behavior for a host?

[edit]on a similar note, why is the dither option related to the audio settings, and not to the render settings? Depending on the render samplerate I choose, I might want to dither or not and again, why is the render option so intimately joined with the audio settings?
