New Soundcard

I'm considering getting a new soundcard for my PC to replace the lash-up I have at the moment. I've seen the Audiophile 2496 for about £60 and was wondering if anybody here is using one with Tracktion and what sort of latency they achieve? Ta!

I am using Tracktion with an audiophile 2496. No problems at all. Usually working with 256 samples(5.8 ms) latency with no cracks-pops even with fairly complex projects. Can even go down to 128 samples (2.9ms) with simpler projects. Totally recomended!

I have a friend with an Audiophile and an NFR Tracktion, and he seems happy..

My own card is a Delta 66 (from the same range) and its been rock solid: no complaints at all.

Audiophile 2496 here too with Tracktion. Purchased only a few weeks ago actually. No install problems, solid card and drivers out of the box. I go 11 ms in ASIO not because I can't go lower (Audiophile will go much lower than this and I believe I initially used it no probs at 5.8 ms) but because I don't care to stress the 'puter
11 ms is not even noticeable mostly anyway...and the Audiophile drivers are rock solid so far.

Me again Anyone using an E-mu 0404 - what sort of latency from it?

And can you used the SPDIF input and analogue inputs at the same time? None of the reviews I've found mention whether they even tried it, although the name of the card seems to imply that you could...

yes you can use all outs & ins at the same time

2ms lowest latency i run at 7 to 20ms depending on how meny plugins im using 7ms while i compose & 20 during the final mix

the best thing about this card is the on board DSP also powers the patch mix, witch is like a digital mixer witch gives you 16 ASIO outs from your host music app EG; Tracktion as well as on board dsp fx


i would buy the 0404 at £67 any day

but drivers are'nt at there most stable yet

7mS eh? Not bad - my current setup (based on M-Audio 2448) only goes reliably down to 11, which I can hear but cope with. Unfortunately, people I work with can't cope with it (throws one guitarist's timing out completely!)

What sort of driver problems do you have to contend with?

My Delta 66 only starts to glitch on the very lowest setting of 64 samples (1.4ms at 44.1KHz).. 128 samples (2.9 ms) is rock solid with Tracktion. I'm pretty sure I couldn't get that low with Cubase VST, but my dongle stays at work these days so I can't check.

That said, my ageing 1.4GHz Athlon, with no SSE, can't run all that many of my home-made SE plugs at such low settings, so I usually stick to a fairly relaxed 384 sample / 8.7ms setting, and occasionaly up it a bit more for ambitious mixdowns!

tracktion will happely run at 1.9ms if you only have a few plugins running up to 10 non cpu hungry plugins



the fx from the dsp come in vst form aswell, just put in your tracktion plugin folder


the drivers?? well some times you wil get crackling for no reason & have to hit the restart ASIO device button to fix it

& if your asio host crashes you have to reboot to get sound back

yeah im using the emu 1820 and had some problems at the start but have them sorted now, really has alot to do with nforce boards, the quality and amount of outs and ins you get is insane for the price, drivers could be a bit better but ive got it running stable enough now.

I like the Audiophile 24/96, but I don't like the fact that I have to close T to change buffer settings. This is no fault of T because I have 2 other interfaces that allow this.

Excellent answer, XP2000 here too! <rubs hands in glee> Anyone seen a price for the 0404 cheaper than £64.99? (That price is from Turnkey in London.)

So far 177 people have applied for volunatry severance at work, so fingers crossed that this buy is going to happen.
