EDIT: I'm going to repeat what I said in a earlier post. So bear with me please.

The people of Arturia are going to laugh their asses off after hearing the bad news themselves. :hihi:

But first, the good about Minmonsta:

The lead patches are cool. I can cook some good hooks with them.

The bass patches are good (especially the first 2). I still had some knobs to turn to make those basses deep & funky.

With my host FLS, the CPU was no high than 30% (basses) & 10% (leads). This alone is minimonsta's advantage over minimoogV.

And now the bad news (brace yourselves!!!):

The bass patches in minimoogV are a lot deeper & heavier than minimonsta. Desprite my CPU hitting 30-50% in FLS or Standalone, minimoogV is the better choice for basses!

Using minimonsta for anything other than basses or leads are a joke. I cannot begin to tell all of you how playing triads almost had me hitting close to 100% on the CPU!

In conclusion, Arturia will not be losing any sleep over what the people of Gmedia are trying to do right now. But considering that I really like using the minimosta for leads, Gmedia deserve more time to fix all the bugs if they really want this synth to be sucessful.

As for my own music, minimoogV is still the champion.

What bugs?

You might also want to point out more clearly that you only reviewed the patches, which generally isn't a good practise for anything more than a quick taster, especially for a synth this simple.

Also, MiniMonsta CPU usage is extremely good in my books.

Was that on p2 400mhz?

I tweaked the patches as well as created better basses & leads!

And too much CPU power on certain patches are the bugs that I took very seriously. :scared:

EDIT: 1.4 GHZ P4, FLS as host. :)

cpu is pretty good here on my athlon 2400+ (before barton). 16 notes playing at the same time of rozzers "boards of rozzer" 3 osc patch is only a 30% hit for me.

First little testings seem to show again here that anything Gmedia and Ohmforce did until today is really wonderfully light on our CPU. I always had the impression that compared to the results you get it's nearly unbelievable how they do it.

But this is in no way a comparison,so utterly useless here :hihi: , as I don't even know the Arturia one. Playing with presets though, as we have to await some 2500 or 6000 or more, isn't thought of as scratching the surface though from Gmedia, is it  . I can't wait to test the Minimonsta more. Cheers

To my ears, Minimonsta's got loads more balls than the Minimoog V... never used a real minimoog and couldn't care less which emulation is more 'authentic' but the Minimonsta definitely sounds better IMO. Especially the filter!

Oh bollocks! this is one of the simplest, yet expressive, clearly laid out synths on the market and some of you people want more patches?

Maybe this would be the right the time to start learning to roll yer own?

Work up a fresh new lead patch. That is minimonsta biggest selling point to my ears. 8)

I'm upset :( The OS X version crashed both Live and LE7 for me. I didn't try installing the VST though, maybe I'll try that...

The Mininmonsta isnt about new sounds. Lets face it, analogue stuff has limited waveforms and oscillators. Thats all been done to death. Its the quality of the waveforms, the richness of the filter and overdrive section. They are hardest to master and this is the best Ive heard yet. It growls and spits like a biatch. You know what - when I hired a Minimoog years ago, I said to a friend of mine "I dunno what the fuss is about, its ok but nothing special" :P I didnt know what its strengths were. Its the same with this. You have to see what it excels at then you can hear it.

Completely agree. Filter and Oscs is the best amongst other VAs. Maybe VAZ with 2x oversaple option can compete imo.

Any of the Ohmies filters are gold to my ears

OK, crashed as a VST also. Oh well. Don't have the $$ anyway.

I haven'tgot round to trying the demo yet - don't usually do demo's but I might make an exception. Or just buy it anyway.

I don't care about how close an emulation it is - and I have Minimax anyway which I suspect is still the best emu in terms of absolute authenticity but that's not really an issue for me anyway.

What I like, having recently got Symptohm, is the metapatch feature. It really is a significant innovation in terms of playability and creativity and coupled with the wonderful knobs and morphing etc it seems to me that the really clever thing about the Minimonsta - and the thing that has got me most excited - is that it's a conscious attempt to, in one stroke, pay homage to the birth of the modern Synth - and at the same time point to it's future. That is awesome. It's a players instrument and if it can add that to the most basic "model" synth going (I mean in the sense of being the ancestor and ideal so many other's aspire to) then it can do so much more coupled with a next gen synth engine.
