Annoying "bug": plugin-rescan!

Hi!

Since I got my new PC (P4 3GHz), I have some trouble with refreshing my plugin list.

When I do a "complete rescan" in the settings, Tracktion finally reports 3 plugins as "ignored". These plugins are the same all the time: Rumpelrausch ZR3, Muon Tau Pro and Muon SR-202. When I do that scan again, nearly half of the content in my plugin folder will be moved to the "ignore" list... :-o :help: :?:

OK, somehow it has to work. I cleared the ignore list and activated "always check on startup" option. WOW - now it works perfectly and none of the plugins was ignored!

abstract:

1. Manual trigger of rescans doesn't work properly
2. Always the same three plugins start causing trouble
3. clearing the list and doing an automatic rescan at startup works fine

What could it be? It's a bit annoying, because it is more time consuming at startup and I can't add new plugs on the fly.

Maybe a timing problem, because the plugins mentioned above are reporting too slow? But why does it work on startup? I would suspect it's the same code in Tracktion which does the job...

Any ideas? Anyone?

try putting them in seperate scanning dirs
eg steinberg/vstplugins
tracktion/plugins

beeing some freeware vsti's, these sometimes
use a shared winxp/system .dll wich they
share with some dlls used by graphical
programs (for instance photoshop plugins)

Hmmm....

but this doesn't explain why it works the one way and doesn't work the other way...

and: with exactly the same folder structure I neither had any problems both on my former desktop-PC (P3/650) nor on my laptop (P3/1000). On my laptop is the same system as on my new PC (WinXP/SP2, same software for business tasks)

I still suspect "speed" as the trouble-maker in this special case.

maybe the 2nd cpu simulation of the p4 has to do with it, but other t1 /p4 hyperthread users reported no similar probs.

i can remember that i have had similar problems on an amd but i don't know, what makes them go away because i have made some fresh installs of xp and tracktion since then.
