can anyone recommend quality ambient dub music/artists?

Try 'Lateral Forces' (the 7 track album, not the 3 track EP) by Kit Clayton.

Lush, smoky, dubby goodness. Makes me think of rocks being rubbed over a contact mic in places (which there may well be).

edit: 7 track, not 8 :dog:

there is just SOO much ambient dub out there..

but i think one major (more electronic) influence for many has been the person of richard H kirk..

also hallucinogen has one very fine dub-album out..

also, if you're new to chill and like pole, you might check the first autechre-album inacunabula (produced by kirk).

Dekky - you say Adrian Sherwood is ambient dub? :?

Well then I'll have to recommend 'The Secret Dub Life Of The Flying Lizards' if that's the case. My hero David Cunningham was slightly ahead of Mr. Sherwood and the ON-U Sound crew I believe? Brilliant CD if you can find it. Adrian was very cool too... British white blokes - yo, ras-clat what be up wit dat? :-o

If that's what goes for 'ambient dub' these days?
I just know it as 'hard stylie' still. :hihi:

The board is structurally similar to that used in English draughts (American checkers), although the latter is usually in red and black. Some low-cost sets (especially those sold in toy stores) may use red and black squares and include pieces for both games; though suitable for informal play, such boards are often not accepted for sanctioned play, depending on the local authority's rules on equipment standards.

The board is always placed so that the rightmost square on the row nearest each player is a "white" square. The size of the board is usually chosen to be appropriate for the chess pieces used, and squares should be between 50mm and 65mm in size (2.0 to 2.5 inches). A square size approximately 1.25 to 1.3 times the size of the base of the king is preferred (the base of the king should be about 78 percent as wide as the size of the squares.)

In modern commentary, the columns (called files) are labeled by the letters a to h from left to right from the white player's point of view, and the rows (called ranks) by the numbers 1 to 8, with 1 being closest to the white player, thus providing a standard notation called algebraic chess notation.

check out -

Deadbeat (on Pole's ~scape label)
Sad Rockets (Andrew Pekler)
Rhythm and Sound
earlier Vladislav Delay stuff
Safety Scissors

Twilight Circus, for sure. Excellent rootsy dub.

On a slightly technoier tip: Basic Channel (mainly later stuff, earlier stuff is pretty full on Mills-like techno) and spinoffs. Rhythm And Sound were mentioned earlier.
Fluxion is nice, too.

I wouldn't have said Pole was ambient dub in the same sense as, say, the Orb (although they're also fantastic.) If you like the spooky minimalist aspect of Pole you might find the Orb, Banco de Gaia, Jah Wobble and so on a bit hippy dippy, although you might love them. I'd definitely recommend Burnt Friedmann, Rhythm and Sound, the Clicks and Cuts compilations on Mille Plateaux, Basic Channel, Deep Chord, ~scape and so on.

Was it the dubbiness that got you or the deep ambient glitchiness?

Post

burnt friedman/nonplace urban field
meat beat manifesto in dub (the 5.1 surround dvd version is incredible if you have the equipment to listen to it properly!)
hallucinogen in dub (remixes by OTT)
ott - blumenkraft
shpongle - are you shpongled?
mere mortals - ethnic dub simmphony in 10 parts
higher intelligence agency - freefloater

that should keep you busy for a bit. let me know when you need more, i love this stuff!
