Thinking about selling T1

Oh, and I'm definitely not getting rid of LE7. It just sounds too good, and to get anything of comparable features/quality with my other apps would require rewiring something to something else, and take up too much CPU power.

My main problem right now is I feel a bit scattered among all these apps and plug-ins. I have to pare it down a bit at some point. One thing that I'm forced to do on the Mac is limit plugs, since there are so few free ones and I'm too poor to spend $100+ for most of the better plugs. No Synth1 for Mac users At least LE7 has a decent bundle of sounds, and with the Garageband instruments it really has a big variety. This was really the role Reason was playing for me in OS X. So I'm not sure how much I'll be using Reason now either (I don't use it much in Windows).

I have to give Tracktion a fighting chance though. I remember the first day I had Tracktion I finished a song from composition to mastering. I just have to keep that in mind, that didn't happen with Logic.

As I stated in my message: "I personally still consider Live 4.1 to be a better host than T1" - the key word here is PERSONALLY - it just suits my working environment perfectly (remixing, dance, live work)... Nothing against T1

Live is more like a 1.1 from a midi 'host' standpoint though, something else worth considering IMO.

I definitely didn't take it as disrespectful, in fact is was quite helpful.

But I do think Live and T are similar in at least one respect. Tracktion chains filters at the end of the track in an easily understood way that makes it clear what the signal chain is doing. Live lets you do this too, just at the bottom of the screen. This is one of the reasons I thought 'cool' when I first demo'd Live4. Tracktion is a bit more flexible as the volume/pan and meters are also filters, but it's the same general idea. But the fact that they both have post-hardware UI's that do away with trying to 'be' something they're not makes them similar. They have that same kind of vibe. Sure they are plenty different, but I figure someone that likes one would likely be attracted to the other.

Just remember, more features does not mean better. I know that you know that. You said yourself that you can get more done in T in less time than LE7. And in music, time is money. Even if you're not making much, you're still wasting time. What's good in all those features(still wanting to know what LE has that is significant that T doesn't) don't do you any good if you don't have the time to use them!

Productivity is one of the most important factors IMHO, and I know many here would agree.

Braj, in view of the points you have made, in your shoes I would keep your idea of Logic + Reason on the Mac, but on the PC I would go for Tracktion + Reason.

Tracktion is a powerful host, and you have already pointed out that Live 4 has CPU problems which represent "an achiles heel".

Tracktion has better CPU efficiency AND a freeze function. It is the only one of the hosts you mention which has PDC. And the audio quality in Tracktion is definitely better than Live 4. As of version 2 you will be able to take advantage of its better metering (Live's metering is VERY poor), 64-bit mix summing, video, etc. And it has far more powerful MIDI editing tools than Live 4 as well.

I would keep Live 4 as a "Second Host" for both your Mac and PC setup however. Then you can pull it out when you need its unique feature set, such as the Session view for working on arrangements, its audio warp markers and timestretch/looping tools.

Unless you are seriously strapped for cash, don't let go of your investment in all this good software!

Well, I can lay down drum tracks way easier in LE7 than T and can use loops to my heart's content. What I meant regarding T being more efficient is that it was easy to pick up and use as opposed to a learning curve with LE7. But T has it's learning curve too, and I'm working in LE7 now and getting stuff done that would take me longer to do in T, and not sound as good in Live. Reading tha manual a bit helps too. I dunno, I still have a PC that wipes the floor with my Mac, so I'll still be needing a host for it, and T2's definitely a contender.

Someone in another thread said for working like you work with tape T is awesome, and maybe I'll take that to heart and try and find T's greatest strength. It may come in recording other people's music instead of making my own. That's OK with me.

No doubt that's the best plan. I'll have to see how well I like the T2 demo.

T has cut my working time by 40 to 80% i had logic 5.5.1 windows

+ no more muddy mix's (shore this is fixed in logic 7)

using T im left with enuff time to do other things aswell as work on music

there is a shortcut key for nerley every thing

& most of all it has NEVER crashed & lost my work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno, I'm pretty impressed with LE7. There's plenty of shortcut keys there as well. I just did 12 tracks (of nonsense really) with esxp24 mostly, audio loops, and recorded audio. you can quickly edit your audio and turn it into Apple Loops so you can stretch you guitar parts etc. Pretty nifty. (Live does the same thing maybe easier, but maybe not as well). And there are really useful screen sets depending on what you are doing at the time, it really isn't as hard to use as I though at first. I'm guessing I'm more productive in LE7 already than in Live or T, because I don't have to struggle withe the CPU (Live sucks here, 11 tracks frozen used maybe 10% of my CPU. Live would have choked to death at about 6 without the long process of bouncing down to audio) or find workarounds for loops and midi (I really don't like T's piano roll. I'm sure T2 will be a huge improvement).

I think I've found my main host after a long, expensive journey. I'll keep T for what the future may bring and for use on the PC, but my next computer definitely will be a Mac. It's 2:40 am, and I have to work in the morning. Thanks everyone for your help.

Right at this point I'm just hoping the ReWire sync issue is totally fixed in T2. If that gets done I'll happily use Reason with T in both Mac and Windows pretty consistently. I think this is the reason I went looking for a new host in the first place. I'd be happy with T1 if this one issue were fixed.
