No "make music" button in T1 OR T2! Found a work-a

Despite Jules' shortsighted programming decision to not include a "make music" button, I think I've found a work around.

If I play the guitar or a little piano, I can make music myself! It's hard to believe but it actually works! With some practice, I can play drums too. When I stick a mic in front of these third party music making appliances, I can import them right into tracktion by "recording" them. Pretty cool.

Try it. Maybe Jules will get around to the "make music" button later. Meanwhile, this works fairly well.

P.S. This works on my Mac but I think it SHOULD work on a PC too.

Doesn't seem to work for me, sorry. Guess I'll have to wait on Jules.

I tried that, and while I heard notes coming out (I did have end-to-end enabled, had my VSTi set up right in the track, realtime off) it didn't sound like music to me.

Can you recommend a new soundcard that will work better? :help:

Tried it on a pc, doesn't work. It's like Wooly said, I hear notes coming out, but doesn't sound anything like music (are you on WinXP also Wooly?).
Probably a Mac only thing, although I don't have sp2 installed so maybe...

But is the Make Music feature user-editable? Jules, hold off on my request for strength-select on Input Quantize... How about a slider for the Make Music button something like this:

Artistic
Integrity<------------^------------>BIG MONEY

I'm on Windows 2000.. I think it's a driver issue, or maybe something in my controller keyboard. Pressing random keys produces just that - random notes - and I really expected music to be playing.

Maybe there's some pass-through setting I have turned on that's not letting it make music? :?

This work around worked really well for me, thanks for the tip James!

I think I will use this on all music I make in T from now on

Well until we get the make music button

crumbs, that's a clever work-around. i've been downloading allsorts of software looking for one with the right make-music feature. now i have a workaround that i can apply within tracktion, i can stop looking!
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

I think they should just license a third party "make music" button. Granted, they're expensive, but they have enough to work on making T2 the best it can be without Jules trying to code his own, and I think everyone will be alot happier with T2 if it has a built-in MM.

I to have a workaround, maybe not as elegant but still working.
I usually invite some mates from work, treat them to a dinner and then I usher them down in my studio (basement) there I put guitars and bases in their hands and tell them straight of what kind of music I want. Record it into traction and add drumloops.

I was wondering if someone has the same kind of setup, and maybe eliminated the food part of the equeation, that would be sweet for me.

Btw, this works with windows 2000 and os x.

I tried to google for these "little piano" and "guitar" (what is that language anyway???) but I can't find a download link! Could someone help?

(I'm on PC btw)

Pinky dip in white fluff. You can see music EVERYWHERE. Recording it tricky tho.

The "Make Music" button is dependant on the "Imagination" VST.

This method gets a bit expensive, especially the "Dinner" plugin (I have v4, but I heard the new v5 is delicious). And what base are you handing them, 1st? 2nd? I can never figure that one out.
One caveat: only works in Win2000 SP4
