FL as a plug in

Hi
Amongst my plug ins in T,I have both FL Studio VST and an old version of Fruity. The old version works fine, although to use the generator I want within the old version I have to move the required generator to the top of the step sequencer - not sure if there is a better way to work? In the bad old days before T came along I used Cubasis, and could match the midi patch number in FL to the channel number in Cubasis.
However, the new version of FL makes no sound whatsoever within T - although midi messages are flashing away within FL. Any ideas on either of these minor iritations?
Thanks.

I am using this combo myself, being a veteran FL user and a brand new T user.
I have read so much information in the last few weeks that I might be messing something up, but I believe when you use FL as a VST plugin it enumerates the tracks in order for MIDI channels. The first one is channel 1, second is 2, etc.
make sure in the FX thingie in FL you have the tracks assigned to the right output, too.

Thanks - that question is now sorted. Still everything works perfectly in the old version, but not a peep comes from FL 5 - despite midi info clearly getting into FL. Any more ideas anyone?stoney wrote:You can play various channels in FL by changing the midi input channel in the lower part of Tracktion.

Sorry I can't help......I gave up trying to use FL within Tracktion due to a very annoying bug. Try to change the velocity of a note/drum inside FL......it doesn't work. I had intended using FL for percussion stuff on my projects and have never been able to do this. FL is gathering dust ever since I bought it.....

Bill: There was a known bug when Version 5 was released. It was completely broken as far as remote MIDI went.
I'm guessing you still have the version from when it first became available?
Try downloading it from ImageLine again and try an install over the top of your existing version. There was a patch released, but Gol or JMC took it down when they updated the original install.
gbles: Does it work if you Re-Wire fruity to Tracktion?

Sounds like you've answered my query! I'll give it a go and thank you - may be it wasn't me being thick for once...ceenda wrote:Bill: There was a known bug when Version 5 was released. It was completely broken as far as remote MIDI went.

You know you can ReWire FL Studio into Tracktion, right? That's how I do it. It runs a little smoother for me (as opposed to as a VST) and gives me more control over the routing. I made a template that has 16 channels of FL Studio goodness that I can't get anywhere else. Bringing them up in Tracktion simply requires matching the output to the specific channel (I routed all the channels in FL Studio to their own mixer within FL Studio). Just remember to save your work in FL Studio as closing down Tracktion will not prompt you to save the work done in FL Studio.

I have no idea how to set up this rewire thing but I'll dig around and find out. Whenever I've read "Rewire" I've ignored it in the past cos I thought you only had to worry about it if you used Reason. Sounds cool and thanks for your help.Spirograph wrote:You know you can ReWire FL Studio into Tracktion, right? That's how I do it. Am I right in thinking that the bug present in FL 5.0 will affect using it as both a VST and as a Rewire device?
Guess I'd better spend 3 hours downloading the update to 5.01 via my lovely modem connection...

I'd say ReWire is the way to go. Once you've set up a template in FL Studio, you're good to go. What you should do is figure out what you want for those 16 channels. For me, it's two FPCs, 6 3xOSC, 2 BooBasses, 2 FL Keys, 2 Wasp XTs, and two open spots. For the two FPCs, I set them to mixer channel 1 and mixer channel 17. That way the first FPC will have mixer channels 1-16 and the second FPC will have mixer channels 17-32. Make sure each channel outputs to MIDI channel FL 1 for FPC 1 and FL 2 for FPC 2. The remaining channels all get their own mixer channels which output to their appropriate MIDI channels. When I want to use say the FL Keys in Tracktion, I ReWire FL Studio in, select it from the device list, and then choose the correct channel (in my case, channel 11). Then I set the output to the same channels to have control over the level metering. I can send you my template if you're interested.

Thanks for the information - I think that I have set this up OK, but there is a bug in the first v.5 of FL as it simply is not working -once I've updated to 5.01, I'll have another go!Spirograph wrote:I'd say ReWire is the way to go.
