Lately , I have noticed a lot of requests for an updated T1 manual or for a "book" of tips and tricks. Since the release of T2 is on the horizon, chances of an updated manual for T1 are about nil. So, the tips and tricks "book" might be the next bext thing. This would most likely still have a lot of use even after the release of T2.
Since publishing a Real book would be both time and cost prohibitive, this is what I would like to propose...
If there is enough interest (judged by the responce to this thread.), I will provide a dedicated e-mail address to which all you Tracktion gurus and gurus in training can send your secrets...I will complile them (largely unedited), and "publish" them at a location to be announced.
I have the following sections in mind..
General Tips & Tricks
Recording TNTs (Tips and Tricks)
Render/Export TNTs
Collaberation TNTs
Plug-in specific TNTs
Rack TNTs
Bug workaround TNTs
I don't want to put any limitations on what type of tips that will be used in the "book". If you have a tip that is usefull to you there is a very chance that someone else can use it too...So, don't hold back...
So, what do you think..??? Is it worth the effort..?? Will you contribute..??
This thread is just to find out if you all are interested...
You don't need to post your tips here...we'll give this thread a day or 2, then see if it's gonna fly..

If the result to be a well organized, high resolution pdf file with a well laid out searcheable index, yes that's a great idea. A good start would be to gather what's already available on differents website, with authorization of course.
But it probably would be better to wait for T2 and see what kind of documentation comes with it and see the new features as well.

Do not waste your time. T2 will come with a printed users manual (replacing the html getting started guide) and an in depth Reference manual in PDF covering every feature in great detail. Both will be available on the web as well.

Well, at the very least it will be more organized than spread across the hundreds of threads on this forum. But, my plan is to make it available in multiple formats. Pdf, html, text, compiled help file...etc..
And you are right, a lot of it will be covered in the T2 manual, but, there will probably be many that won't be covered.
My main purpose is to get something out there quick that can be added to as new tips come in..I think that just having a catalog of tips will be of great use to a lot of folks, especially newbies...
Anyway, right now I'm just trying to get a feel for interest, so we will see what happens..

Beno, I think he meant there won't be an upgraded T1 manual. I'm thinking that, after a few months, even those among us who are poor will find a way to upgrade--there will be very few T1 users left for any manual, as I'm sure you guys have already planned.
edelweiss, good idea--I said elsewhere I'd pay some bux for something like a tips and tricks list from the Traction savants. But I also said wait until the T2 manual comes out, it'll have a lot of good stuff in it already.

Oh, a T1 manual? There will not be an updated T1 manual. But the new T2 manuals will cover everything in T1 and more. So other than the midi editor which has changed drastically, everything found in T1 is found in T2, so the new T2 manuals will be usefull for T2 and T1 users alike.

Ok, that being sorted, let's get back to the subject at hand.
What I am envisioning is an organized Tips list...not a comprehensive manual. this would be an ongoing endeavor, which in time will include tips for T2 as well as T1..
No feature requests...No bug reports and No rants about why Brand X is better or worse than Tracktion....just tips and tricks

I still think it could be useful, as long as the tips and tricks weren't just reminders of what's already possible, but rather stuff that we wouldn't normally think about.
For example, adding a blank clip to the beginning of a careful edit in order to retain relative snap, if T2 doesn't provide relative snap.
So much of it depends on which of the 'workarounds' we've collected that we'll still need, and which of them have been addressed.
I don't think it's a waste of time at all, but I DO think that you could end up wasting time if you start prematurely. I can't help but wonder how many people actually WILL stick to T1 despite best intentions. I feel like even the people who don't gain any significant new functionality will still eventually be lured over.
I have to confess, as a bit of a fan, there's no way I'm sticking to T1 even if I don't need T2's new features (which is a moot point, since I DO want looped audio recording).

I definitely think it's a good idea. I search this place so often trying to work around problems in T, I would love to read the little tips that users who have blazed the trail have learned. A "Tips from users" section was included with the official docs for Lightwave 8 (a graphics app for those who don't know) and it was a resounding success.
Making it a wiki is a great idea, it'll be done before you know it, and it'll evolve on its own after T2 is released.
