HI

:help:
probably something simple i am missing here, but when i import midi files into a project they appear in the project page but i cannot for the life of me work out how to get them into a workable format, ( well any sort of format actually :? ) in the edit page so i an attach vst's. I can't seem to do anything with them when they are sitting in the project directory.

I think platinumears mentioned in a previous thread that he renders files from sonic charge so he can quantise etc..... anyone know how he is doing this as i only seem to be able to render audio files.

Various ways to do it:

- Drag the clip from the project window to the tab of any open edit.

- Drag the MIDI file from Windows explorer directly onto the edit.

- press "A" to import a clip, and select your MIDI file.

thanks platinumears

you mentioned in a previous thread that there was a way to export midifiles from sonic charge and import back into tracktion. I'd like to be able to do this in order to use sonic as a way of creating patterns rather than pianorole entry. Whenver i have tried this i just end up with an empty midi file.

any ideas whether this is possible direct from sonic charge into tracktion.

You found one of Tracktions less conventional features.. MIDI export only includes MIDI that arrives at a MIDI output, so you will need to re-route the Microtonic track before exporting..

still don't quite get it.

do you mean reroute to another track?in which case do you i directly export to a midi file from there, or render in some other way first?

thanks

Route Microtonic to any MIDI output (default one should be fine) and export a MIDI file. You will then need to re-import the result (press "A", or drag and drop from explorer).

Hmm still don't seem to get anything in the actual files.

I get a file but it doesnt seem to have anything in it such as note on /offs like normal midi files have. I've tried it both with the default, with the gm synth and with my synth interface. not got very far.

I will work on this for a while and see if i can see where i am going wrong.

thanks for the help

Do you have any effects inserted after Microtonic? If so these are probably not passing the MIDI data, try disabling them..

Sorry, Platinumears; Been away from the computer for a day or so.

No i didnt have any plugs after sonic so i must be mucking up somewhere else, but i haven't really had much chance to have a good play with the idea yet, (I'm a bit time constrained at the moment).

I understand your idea, and can see that sonic does output midi notes, (I have run loopazoid based on its output). So I think i just need some time to sit down and play around for a while to find where i am going wrong. .

I'm unable to get the chance to try and work around for a couple of days but will see where i get too then.

cheers
