Have you tried 'Kaleidon' in Reaktor 4 and 'Photone' in Native Instruments Reaktor Electronic Instruments Vol.2? To me, so far they are the most powerful of all the VSTi VAs out.. Very versatile. Lotsa FX, many wicked sounding filters (and types which arent on any other vsti), 4 oscs, digital wavforms, etc.. To be honest, anymore than what is on offer here would be too much. Parameters are already filling the screen
I have yet to hear a softsynth that matches the depth of character of the Virus. They are getting close but no cigar, need more processing power to get there IMO. I haven't explorerd the creamware stuff though.
Is the Minimonsta as good as Access Virus?

You've got a point here. I know it can sound like we and a tribe of beta tester are orchestrating it, but it's not the case. It indeed is at the point where some ppl hates it just because it's overtalked...The more I read about the MM doing everything except make the tea the more I go off it. Even though it's a nice synth in itself the hype surrounding it is ridiculous IMO. Sad
But hey, I won't complain. One year ago Symptohm:Melohman was not that hot while we wanted terribly to have ppl excited about it, so if this time it works better... well, why not ? Apparently Minimoog sound still is the hottest thing for a lot of people...

might have something to do with its price - quite obviously people are more willing to pay ridiculous amounts for emulations of classic gear than for new innovations...Red_Force wrote:Symptohm:Melohman was not that hot while we wanted terribly to have ppl excited about it, so if this time it works better... well, why not ? The real question is: what are you guys going to do next?

I have never tried Reaktor, but understand that its superb.AudioWhore wrote:

IMO the closest thing that I own to sounding like a professional grade hardware synth is the Korg Legacy Collection, more so than the MiniMonsta. I know that it comes with the for many, unneeded controller, but it has such a bright and alive sound compared to many softsynths that I own.
Is their a demo for Reaktor? If so, I will check it out.

zynaddsubfx is, for me, the best sounding soft synth I've ever heard. really. even better than absynth or zeta. HOWEVER, it doesn't work prperly at all as a vst. It crashed, no more than one instance can be used at the same time, etc
In fact, I'm rendering its patches to wav so I can use some of its sounds in my sampler.

Most people don't have experience with lots of synths so they go for the big names. After a while many of them will look for more innovative stuff like SymptOhm.Red_Force wrote:Apparently Minimoog sound still is the hottest thing for a lot of people...
Future generations will go for whatever is hottest too. Maybe SymptOhm and the likes will have become as famous as Moogs are now by then. Those kids will not only respect soft synths, they will have affordable access to them too... I think there's some incredible synthesis talent coming up, ever craving tech innovation.

Red_Force, sadly I think the biggest difference between how people have reacted to Minimonsta and how they reacted to Symptohm (aside from the year plus of waiting for Minimonsta) is that Minimonsta is quite more user friendly. At heart it's a stock VA with simple routing that incorporates the Melohman technology. Sure you can go way more in depth with it as you want, but I think the Melohman is technology is most impressive in the context of a simple synth than it is in the huge Symptohm, that requires quite a bit of time to master.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Someone asked if there' a Reaktor demo. Yes there is
www.native-instruments.com
It is a cut down version though and only features a fraction of the synths and FX with the full REaktor.

The problem i see with reaktor (well, with most ensembles) is its high cpu usage. I bought reaktor sessions about 3 months ago, and i don't regret it cos it sounds great, but when you want to play a really complex synth like Kaleidon, Hegel...the cpu usage is too much. Not a problem for some, but it is for me actually.
Bues yes, it sounds superb.

there is a reason that certain gear has become classics... when you compare stuff like Roland Juno 6/60/106 , Moog Mini, Roland SH101, Pultec EQ, 1176 compressor, LA2A compressor etc. you notice some kind of similarity: the user-interface is highly optimised, and the parameter-range you can control using this UI is also highly optimised to almost always produce very usefull and effective results ..Funkybot wrote:Red_Force, sadly I think the biggest difference between how people have reacted to Minimonsta and how they reacted to Symptohm (aside from the year plus of waiting for Minimonsta) is that Minimonsta is quite more user friendly. to much options on a UI, combined with the a high possibility to create not so usefull results because of the selected parameter-ranges will make a device that is only interesting and usefull for a few people... i think this partly can explain for the difference in reaction between the melohman and the minimonsta ..

load it up in Energy XT (using eXT as a VSTi) and it will work perfectly!origami wrote:zynaddsubfx is, for me, the best sounding soft synth I've ever heard. really. even better than absynth or zeta. my tip is to bounce the sounds down once you have the melody or simillar ready!

My worst nightmare (almost) is to be stuck in a studio with only a MiniMoog and a Virus. Only being stuck in a studio with nothing but a MiniMoog and a Virus and lots of hairy spiders is worse.
I wasn't even going to enter into this topic, which is patently silly.............
