:help: it's hard to belive I cant figure this on my own but... I just started using Tracktion and have a very basic question regarding multi-tracking. I have read all the Tracktion help and page after page on the Forums.

I record on Track 1 a basic rhythm guitar piece. Then I want to monitor it and record a lead on the next track. Simple enough, but no mater what I do the first track is bounced to track 2 along with the lead track. So I end up with the rhythm on track 1 and the rhythm and lead on track 2. That is what I call sound-on-sound not multi-tracking.

What am I doing wrong, any ideas? Please help!
Thanks!!

What are you recording through ? Guitarport ?

I think you're possibly recording the playback through the sound device, and this isn't a Tracktion problem at all.

Check the loopback/playback options in your device.

select the input icon (green arrow on left). check the 'record mode'.

Also check you sound card ASIO settings panel for things that could be the source of this.

Sounds very much to me like the output from Tracktion is being looped back to the input...this could be happening on your sound card or in the external connections to your computer...

does your sound card have a "patch bay".??..if so, the problem could be there..

Are you using an external mixer..?? Is the output from your computer going to the same mixer as the input..??

That's about all I can think of that would do what you are describing....

Hope this helps...
Good Luck..

Thank all of you for your thoughtful and useful suggestions. Late last nite I came across the problem and it was the sound card feeding everything back thru Tracktion. I changed the input settings to Mic Line In and that fixed the looping problem. Now of course there is a new problem, perhaps an impediance issue but I have lots of ideas how to fix that.

Thanks again!! Its nice to have an intellegent community to tap into, The Internet is great!!
