Using StepChild in Tracktion.

I stumbled across StepChild yesterday and am extremely happy to find a step sequencer for Tracktion but I have a problem.

I put StepChild into the track I want to use, then I insert a softsynth, I draw a pattern, it sounds cool, I got what I want, but how the hell do I get this to record? I hit record, and it looks like it's recording like it usually does, but when I stop recording, the red "recording band" disappears.

I do not get amny midi or audio data. So pretty much all I get is something I could only use in a live situation. How do I get midi or audio data to record from the step sequencer? Thanks.

If you want the pattern as a MIDI clip, drag the "drag and drop" button from stepchild onto a track.

If you want the output of the synth as an audio clip, select the track and press the render button.

Indeed! "Record" won't work because you're not actually recording anything. Keep this in mind, using ASCII to represent Tracktion stuff:

The recording happens immediately after the input device. So if you're recording an audio input, it makes a new audio clip. If you're recording a MIDI input, it makes a new MIDI clip. It hasn't even gotten to StepChild yet in order to "record" it!

StepChild is a way to program MIDI parts and hear them in realtime, but in order to have them in the track area we drag'n'drop from StepChild, which effectively takes the place of a standard "recording" or "importing" phase for MIDI data.
