Okey dokey - you two are right and I'm wrong.audiobot202 wrote:Quite right. Graham never actually left 808. And came out with some not-very-great solo stuff.
Martin Price left because he felt they'd gone as far as they could with their sound. I know this because he chatted about it with me in the interview.
Really can't be bothered to labour the point other than to say that I've worked along side them on numerous occassions and the guys live just around the corner from me.
But hey! What do I know?

I grew up listening to them, they were my favourite group at the time of ex:el,it is a true classic. It hit the perfect balance between wide appeal and true substance, it is a master piece!
They were never the same 808 State once martin left, they seemed to lose the individual depth their music had with him in. They have done some great tracks since, but they are very hit and miss and none as good as the ex:el years. They earned their place in the hall of classics already though.

BTW, just to clarify.
I'm not disputing that MP left, I'm just stating that at one time, GM also left and wouldn't even be in the same room as the rest, let alone on the same radio show.

I remember buying the 12" of Pacific State when it was released. I loved it, but I was about 12 or 13 at the time. I also bought the LP '90' which I had a listen to a little while ago but to my ears it had dated really badly and was a bit pants.
I loved 'In Your Face' though, and still do...

Had MC Tunes DJ'ing at many of my parties.
Last time I saw him was on Halloween last year, DJ'ing at my mates party.
He was totally appalling.
So baaaad it was embarrasing.
He was running on reputation only.
And he lost what little he had with us that night.
Especially as nobody could shift him from the decks - but then he always was like that.
I learnt to put him on last at my do's, otherwise nobody else got the chance.
He still does his rapping over his tunes though.
Distinctive voice and all that.
His mixing was shite, but his rapping was still pretty edgy.
In fact, I was actually listening to 'The North At It's Heights' just the other day, playing it to one of the lads that were at that party but didn't know who he was, other than he was a shite dj with a bad attitude.

I had The Only Rhyme That Bites on 12" too. I remember the lyrics were printed on the back as an inward spiral, which was really good fun trying to keep up with the flow whilst spinning the sleeve so you could read what he was babbling on about. again I was only about 12 so I think I can be excused

If you had said that you knew them, or there had been casual banter from them about this stuff...then yes...but what we read or hear about in interviews and what you hear on the street as a mate is probably going to be different. No?Glassback wrote:Okey dokey - you two are right and I'm wrong.audiobot202 wrote:Quite right. Graham never actually left 808. That being said...what are they like as guys on the street, that is?
