I tried this synth and it does sound really good, but I can barely use it. Sorta like ACE, takes so much CPU...but I knew that ahead of time so no excuses there.

Just on headphones, so mix will have issues. But all sounds Diva. (+ EQ and some compressing)
Btw that CPU usage is a bit problematic.

If I load the default patch, add the Sallen-Key filter(rev 1), set the cut off to around 115 and peak to 50 and then hold a single note, as the oscillator phases coincide there's a noticeable momentary, high-freq, gritty noise.
I presume that this is just replicating behaviour that one would get with a real Sallen-Key?

Yeah I suppose.
Have no money for the beast anyway, so this is kinda only chance how to touch it a bit.

There's just one thing I can say about Diva...
It's F***** AWESOME!!!!!!!
Everything i do with that DIVA sounds excellent!!!!
I think i'll try to make some presets and share here. (if there's someone interest on it...)

Yes. It's present in all filters, digital or analogue. In digital synths it's usually a bit more pronounced, which I think is the reason for people to say that some digital synths sound "harsh".hakey wrote:If I load the default patch, add the Sallen-Key filter(rev 1), set the cut off to around 115 and peak to 50 and then hold a single note, as the oscillator phases coincide there's a noticeable momentary, high-freq, gritty noise.

It took as quite some time to understand, and here's how to avoid it: Add a highpass filter in front of the lowpass. With the right settings you'll see how the "grit wrap" attenuates.
Mind you, there's always a highpass filter somewhere, even if you don't see it. Just like in the hardware synths. Hence the grit is slightly attenuated in Diva by default.

A couple of questions, comments for Urs or those who might know these answers:
- A few have asked, but not sure if it's been answered, will there be a 64-bit version?
- How/where do we report bugs? (Here's one I noticed last night: second knob from right on the bottom row of knobs in Dual VCO, the pull-down doesn't work)
- Diva is pretty CPU intensive, even with my year old i7 machine, so wondering what can be taken out if anything. The first that comes to mind is the modifications view. This is cool, but if it's a duplication of the selections already made above, couldn't it be eliminated and save on some CPU time?
- I will admit that I haven't yet bought a u-he product, but have been strongly considering Zebra, until now... I like the sonic quality of Diva a little better than Zebra, from my minimal experience with the Zebra demo. u-he experts: if you had to make a choice between one or the other, would you choose Diva?
- Lastly, what is u-he policy on updates/upgrades? In other words, are updates generally free for any 1.x version, and then discounts for existing customers upgrading to a 2.x version>
Thank you, Todd
PS - This is one Diva I'm in love with !!!

-As far as I know, all other "finished" u-he products have a x64 version so I guess that DIVA will also feature one.
-Try using DIVA with a "fast" accuracy and leave the best quality only for rendering to save CPU.
-If I didn't had Zebra I probably choose it instead of DIVA.

I still couldn't believe how good this synth is. What have you guys done? Did you make a contract with the devil before you program it? It's cpu heavy, yes, but for the sound it can create it's worthy of all my cpu process. Why must you releaseeeeeeee it when i'm broke? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY???

Shouldn't the oscillators go into overdrive, the more they are pushed with their respective volume controls and as filter distortion is pushed resonance takes a hit. My Future Retro XS does this and I love it. I don't know if the ones being modeled here did it as I've never used them unfortunately. If it is the case though - shouldn't this type of behavior have been modelled? Doesn't seem to be.

Zebra - way more flexible and, according to Urs, it will be benefiting from much of what's been learnt whilst developing DIVA (the filter algo's will probably end up in Zebra).3ee wrote:if you had to make a choice between one or the other, would you choose Diva?
That said, if you're just after a great sounding, easy to use, highly playable synth, choose DIVA.
