I figured there were most likely important differences between the old layout configuration file and the current, so it was better to learn what it was that I needed to adjust to fix the layout.

So with a decent text editor (really, you're gonna want something that has decent search functions), open up both the DarkHorse skin and the Default skin.

The string you're going to want to search for is:

Code: Select all

name='labeltext' id='0' value=''
So for example to fix the VCF1 alignment search for:

Code: Select all

name='labeltext' id='0' value='VCF1'
(You can further speed this up by doing a search for name='labeltext' id='0' value=VCF - leaving off the number and closing quote and you flip through the things you're going to fix.)

That will land you on the right block of code.

On the top line of this block of code is a string something like this

Code: Select all

bounds='0.00 14.00 43.00 12.00'
Those are the placement variables for main lables. You can copy them out of the DarkHorse skin, or tweak them yourself - I did some of both.

There are still a couple of small misalignments but at this moment it's close enough.

Hope that helps, or that I'm not giving away company secrets. If so, just delete away. No worries.
i dont suppose you want to post the updated file?

Hear, hear! ;)

Sure.

I searched, found and tweaked a few other settings that help with the alignment problem. Once you know what to start looking for... I didn't change any of the module skins - only the background tiles - so what works for me should work for anyone using DarkHorse.

But, keep in mind, that mine is not exactly the same as the DarkHorse skin configuration. I was more concerned with making it work with my background revision. There are some differences in the color section where I didn't copy the settings over, and I probably missed some of his custom controls.

But it would probably be good for some others to look at it and see what I'm overlooking.

Anyone know what happened to Daniel (dnl, unempty etc.)?
He hasn't been here for a good while now.

Post

Uhm... I've just done a diff on Daniel's latest download and my original Z2.2 layout...

He already renamed "Partamento" into "Glide", just a few "Volume" weren't changed into "Vol".

Other than that, d'oh... it's difficult. As the new automatic text abbreviation comes to effect soon, some labels must be resized... but these might be pretty hard to find... I'll check that out...

Cheers,

;) Urs

@Howie: I have no idea... he might just be on vacation...

I'll tell you one thing, after doing just that small bit I realize what a tremendous job these skinners do. It's one thing to throw some masks and adjustment layers on the png files, but to really figure out how which pieces control which elements displays amazing diligence. So, Daniel, my admiration for you has increased 10-fold. (Of course my admiration for Urs who built something of such power and cleanliness already knows no bounds.)

For the record:
The Zebra2.txt configuration file above is more the default config file than the default darkhorse skin. Some of the color settings got migrated, and, of course, some of the label coordinates got moved. But I was more interested in preserving the integrity of the release configuration. But it might not look like the DarkHorse skin you know and love.

Some day...

When Zebra 2.2 comes out, will the Unempty Dark Horse skin still work ? I mean the one you can download from page one in this thread ? There were so many messages in this thread with modifications and so on that I'm completely lost...

Yeah, I'm still using the one from the first page and with all these posts aren't sure if there's a more "updated" version. I love this skin though and hope it will work when Zebra 2.2 comes out.

Post

Ah then you have the same problem I have. I'm using it with Zebra 2.2 Beta 6 and it's totally ok, but the recent posts left me confused about the future

Post

Now that 2.2 is released, an officially updated Unempty Darkhorse skin would be a great supplement. :D
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)
