Gave the kits a quick run. Sounded good. I had some difficulty getting the soundfont to work, but I don't know what caused that. In one edit, it just wouldn't make any sound. But that must have been a bug in that edit? Gracious knows.

The kits sound very cool. I didn't have any effects on them, though, and I didn't try any real-world tests. That'll take much, much more time.

I do sense, though, that I need to learn how to tweak these soundfonts, because I sense that even if I end up having the very same taste as you (doubtful...but you never know...and great minds [and ears?] thing [or hear] alike]) I'll want to experiment.

I guess it's in the edit, cannot be in the soundfont. If you made sure that the SFZ player is set to bank 128 (percussion bank) and then selected a kit, the soundfont always plays.

Yeah, they are quite good already (in a complete mix). And I'm improving this. I'll send you a PM when I have the next version. Today I got written approval from M. Kingston to convert his great Ruffrider and Easyrider drumkits into one single soundfont (after tweaking them for better panning and velocitiy levels, and adding toms etc.)
So at least the Easyrider kit (which is probably even the best when tweaked) will soon be available in the simple ".sf2" format.

I banged on them some more. Finally realized I needed to set SFZ to channel 10 so the kits would all sound (when I changed "programs"). I rebooted the computer and SFZ is working fine now.

Is it easy to split the kits up into their own soundfonts (using viena)? I'm running on very little CPU power (550 mHz, PIII), so I may want to do this with other soundfonts (not yours, because it's doing okay...but I just tried out another set of kits..."livekit7.sfz" which is too big (65MB or so)).

Let me know about your updated bandkit! In the meantime, I'll keep experimenting.

For this one task, forget Viena, mucho easier is: "Sound Font Librarian"
(-and use Viena for all normal tasks such as editing sample banks)

Understood, so that should go in a separate file. In Geoff's live kit you'll find it's not key-mapped according to GM drumkit standard (in my experience this makes it impossible to work with e.g. to directly play MIDI files you exchange with friends) and in those kits, the volume settings on the individual instruments were a problem for me. I could also mention (like others did before) that the cymbal samples are unuseable, but then I know that the guy is a huge talent when it comes to sampling instruments.
