Bitmap to spectra sounds interesting though.Urs wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 5:19 pm That is true. We won’t have a facility to convert bitmap files to spectra.

There should be some synths which can do that. Zebra doesn’t need to have this as well, it doesn’t really fit the concept.

Yes, there are. Zebra 2 is too powerful for me already, and so will be Z3. It doesn't need each and every gimmick on the planet.Urs wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 5:24 pm There should be some synths which can do that. Zebra doesn’t need to have this as well, it doesn’t really fit the concept.

Thank you! yeah, Z3 from what I've seen looks like it's just going to be a very fast way of doing wavetables and...everything! I think it's better anyway to start from scratchnilhartman wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 9:00 am Most of times, the simplest (it's all relative eh) wavetables lead to the most musical results. It's often more about tasteful and relevant subsequent processing for a given goal. And with regards to Z3, OSC FX, FM, filtering, wavetable or additive rendering engines (among countless other options) will factor in. So exciting, right ?
The effort on the editors in Z3 will most likely make using 3rd party WT useless IMO, unless you need something extremely specific.
I for one also plan to focus (almost) solely on Z3, and a handful of other synths for very specific results (Bazille and Harmor mostly). On a side note, while I LOVE Hive 2, I wonder if Z3 will replace it in most task I'd use H2 ?

Will there be some documentation about the wavetable format for Zebra 3?Urs wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 5:24 pm There should be some synths which can do that. Zebra doesn’t need to have this as well, it doesn’t really fit the concept.
Third party software could import images (or anything really) and generate wavetable files. I'd be happy to work on a web app to do that.

I've been trying to follow things from the beginning, but it's been too long and the information is too scattered. Could someone post a bullet point list in detail of what is is planned for Zebra 3? There are literally thousands upon thousands of posts one would have to sift through to try to put this all together alone. I'm not looking for absolute promises, but I'd really love to know what is planned. It's a big ask, I know, but it would really help me (and probably many others) out with keeping up in the conversations.

You mean you want someone else to go through the thousands of posts and make the list for you?audiojunkie wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 7:58 pm I've been trying to follow things from the beginning, but it's been too long and the information is too scattered. I won't be doing that cause most of it will be out of date and so a waste of time. In general, there is consolidation. For example, in Z2, there are multiple different interfaces for similar tasks. In Z3, the drawing of waveforms is now the same core editor as MSEG's. Z3 will also include the recent voice architecture so it will support MPE, CLAP PolyMod, MTS-EPS and so on.
Beyond some broad brush strokes, we don't know the specifics of what will be included initially.

That would be too shameless for even me!
I was just hoping that someone (maybe even Urs) had been keeping track of the main highlights.

While there's a lot we still don't know, the main thing that's getting a major overhaul is the waveform editor, which is now using some fancy footwork with splines. The old waveform editor is still great, but imo it was never really put to use, at least not to its fullest potential, like it should've been for lots of reasons. After watching some demos of the early prototype from last year's Superbooth, this editor seems to have a more fluid user experience, and lots of new features that will allow us to put together some really cool wavetables in a matter of minutes.audiojunkie wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 7:58 pm I've been trying to follow things from the beginning, but it's been too long and the information is too scattered. In a nutshell: it should be a less tedious and fiddly user experience with more overall control and immediately satisfying results. On the surface, it looks rather intuitive and user friendly, but if you want to drill deeper, you can...to an extent that looks to be the most sophisticated waveform design environment ever made. No pressure, Urs
Anyway, that's what I've gleaned from the early prototype demos from last year.

It's not big at all! the very first post in this thread by Urs details exactly what's intended for Zebra3 and more.

Thank you both for your info! It was very useful! Will the oscillators types be the same?

Zebra3 isn't changing the formula too much. It's still going to be a wireless semi-modular synth without a shred of sampling in sight. The main difference is unifying all of the separate editors into one so the workflow is even faster and more intuitive. Technology has changed dramatically since 2012, so the sound quality is going to reflect all of u-he's developments over the past decade. There's also going to be little things here and there to make things easier (e.g I believe the filters and XMF filters will be unified).
Beyond that, It's best to wait and see
