I could try making one myself, but because of the time factor, I'm
using some pre-made presets, and just a few of my own.
What Synth are you using? Yeager might have some tips for a cymbal, he's a cymbal master
DuneCM :)

Working on something too, havn't done this in a while but it's fun trying to get everything (kind of) right :)

Which synth are you using? Making a decent crash cymbal is one of the hardest things to get right in my experience... I'm using Dune CM and the way I eventually got a half decent crash was to use two of the selectable waveforms with a bit of a metallic tone(I think I used no. 14 and 55), mixed with the noise oscillator, and a the hp/lp filter combination about 4/5th of the way opened with a lot of resonance (and ofcourse tune the adsr). Then I used Reverberate CM for a short reverb,a hp filter and eq.

edit: I could post the patch if you /anyone else is interested..
edit 2: went ahead and uploaded it anyway, does realy need some eq boosts and a bit of reverb though...

Finally working on something too but not sure if I can find the time to get it finished in time. I would have liked to participate in last months contest as I'm a big fan of Mono/Fury (and all the other Full Bucket synths), but I got sidetracked by this collaboration project with none other than Björn himself :D

Besides that, I've set a contest (for myself) within this month's contest just to make it even more interesting for me. But this means it's also (a lot) harder ;) Still, hoping to get a track ready in time. I already have a decent base track so it's actually looking pretty good.

I recommend uploading whatever you have, because that's a really important part of OSC for me, is the motive to finish a song. :)

Am I too late to the party?

I'm really tempted (to participate) because of all these nice prizes but I don't know if I have enough time to make a decent song until November 1st...

Who cares, join the party... if anything you'll learn something new right?

Here is a preset for Dune

Work with the resonance/cutoff and the offset, and add some reverb (send) good luck.

I'm pretty sure it will come to that anyway, just hope it is also something to actually enjoy listening to ;)

I just try my best to write something that I would like to listen to over and over, and hopefully others would too. If I don't want to hear it again, chances are that many others out there will not like it as well. So then I'll re-work a part here and there.

Usually I try to avoid repeating things too often, with a decent amount of
changes. Plus I'll use some layering for melodies, and if I'm lucky, some sort of hook(s) thrown in.

Also, I usually save much of the automation (mainly filters, volume, and panning) till when it 's almost finished.

Just my 2 cents.

I feel the same way. I entered in August for the first time. Now I am much busier with work etc, but anyway I'm going to do my best and upload what I have. It's worth it for the feedback.

Here is my attempt at a Crash cymbal on DUNE CM. With this patch it's best to just hit the key and release it the same way time a drummer's stick hits a percussion piece.

And thanks Yeager for yours.

This is awesome guys - I'll be listening to these tonight. If I find any new cymbal techniques I'll post it here. Can't believe how Cymbal Minded I am.

chk071 wrote:Just order it here: http://de.zinio.com/www/ You get the digital copy, then you can register on the Computer Music vault site, where you can download the whole contents of the DVD. It should include all plugins.
Issue #182 has the oldest plugs availible in the online vault afaik, so if you get that issue and a current issue then you'll have a good selection of plugs.
Hey, you can get MANY of the old plugins by buying CM Special 'The ultimate guide to mixing'. This is Cm issue 20 in the vault. It's a 3GB download, and has quite a few gems including Dominator, Genesis, etc.
Dang, I'd better get that issue. Had no clue Genesis was in the vault! #182 has Dominator. You're 100% sure that Genesis is included with #20?
