hi,

the midi file was helpful to see the order of triggers,
mike you may send me your energyXT file with the DK+ track only,

I'll be looking into this issue
this week

thanks for your patience

Post

Sorry, not at this time, I am heavy at work, but here is the detailed walkthrough, since file alone won't explain it anyway:

- open energyxt, insert a new sequencer
- open sequencer, in an empty midi channel set output to new VST, and find DK+. Now it will be on the left side.
- open DK+, select some kit, open its sequencer and create as follows:
- patern A, 2 pages 12 hits long (3/4)
- pattern B, 4 pages 16 hits long.
- back to energyxt sequencer, put a little midi part at the begining of the midi channel that is sending to DK+, and put in it a note to trigger pattern A.
- now put another little midi part some 7 bars away and put in it a trigger for pattern B.
- now start the ext sequencer (in a loop), and open DK+ sequencer to see what's going on.
- if in the right spot, pattern B will be triggered from part 1, but then try to move the MIDI that triggers B forwars or backwards and see what happens. Sometimes it starts form 3... I don't see much difference if LIVE mode is on or off.

Post

thanks, how do you set out on MIDI ch 16 to DK+ in energyXT?

Post

here is a short song for energyXT using DK+
pattern switch A B and sequencer on off,

possibly I don't understand what you want to do

Now I think I know what you mean,
DK+ seq is linked to host seq measures,
but is seems that you expect DK+ to restart the pattern each time you with change it, rigth?

that's not how it works,

Post

Just came home ant sent you a mail with the example... OK, if thats not how it works I gotta change my approach in programming patterns...

Is this something that would an easy feature addition to dk+?

With the way it is now you have to program a pattern for each section of the song (verses chorus's, etc.) pretty much from scratch (because each chorus/verse starts on a different page).

If you had a mode that each pattern started on page one, then you could program one chorus pattern, then either use that same pattern for each chorus, or make a new chorus pattern that you can just vary things slightly to make it sound more "human," but you don't have to start from scratch. Same for verses, etc.

For me the more I can do in dk+ the better, I find it much better than having to mess around in the midi edditor in Tracktion.

I hope this would be an easy addition.

Here is another thought. (this might far more difficult to program).

If you had a seperate "page" for programming the order of patterns. You say that dk+ follows the measure numbers of the sequencer - so you could on a pattern page have something like this:

1. Have a place that shows the measure number you are currently on in real time.

2. Be able to program the order of the patterns and at what measure they begin and switch (much like trigering from midi notes, except the triggers would be internal in dk+)

- you could have patern "A" for example and when you click
on it down drops a list of measure numbers, and you
could put a check by the measures you want patern A to
start on. This Pattern would keep playing until another
pattern in programed to start. The next pattern would
of cours start on page 1 of the pattern :hihi:

3. Be able to export the whole arrangement to a single midi file.

A third option would be (maybe the best option):

1. In the preferences page you could check an option to follow dk+ internal paging (instead of the default sequencer measures)

2. When you right click on a pattern on the sequencer page there would be a new menu option "measure number" and like the current "set color" option it would take you to a sub menu where you could select the measure numbers you wanted that patern to start on.

3. In the space beside (or near) the "length" number at the top left on the sequencer page would list the current measure number.

4. Also when you right click on a patern right under the "export smf" there would be an option to export the whole pattern sequence to one midi file. (You could have patetern "z" for example as a default "end pattern" so the midi so at the end of the song you would have a empty measure of pattern "z". This would tell dk+ where to end the midi file.

(or perhaps on the top of the list )(just before measure 1) could be an end pattern check box, this would make it so you could select only one measure for this pattern to start on (which would in tern be the end measure of the midi file))

Just some thoughts all of which might be entirely worthless :!:

I love this little drum machine. and would love to be able to simply create my whole drum track with out haveing to leave dk+.

Post

I must back up this request, since every time I insert a part in a song or make some more cycles, i have to re-program the pages in DK+ and that doesn't work for me.

Post

+1 , would make more sense if patterns started from their page1 when triggered by midi note

that's not how it works,
Just want to make sure I understand it correctly...
So whenever you change patterns DK+ should go to the correct page relative to where you are in the current measure (from the host)?
If a different way of doing it is implemented as a fr, I would like to see it as an option only. I have only just started using Live mode (and I like it so far the way it is :)).

ok I'll see how much work it'd take to add that,

just to explain it again so far the midi note DOES NOT trigger a pattern, it *switches* to another pattern,

the pattern starts according to the host sequencer bars,
honestly this is a more advanced behaviour than just: note = trigger

It might be more advanced the way it is, but I can't think of an incident where I would want to switch a pattern and not have it start on page 1 of the pattern.

Maybe there is a function to this that I don't understand :?:

I guess I just assumed dk+ was intended to work in such a way that you can have up to 24 patterns to work with in your song, and midi notes can be used to trigger these patterns, so you can use dk+ to program the entire drum track for a song. (I assumed that each pattern would start on page one, as to do it any other way some-what defeats the purpose)

Seeing this is not the way it functions (the patterns are tied into the measures of the song and not really "triggered" by the midi notes, but rather switched mid pattern) Am I missing the intended function of using midi to switch patterns :?:

Thanks for looking into this, I hope it is a simple feature to add.
