Creating them is easy if you have any kind of waveform editor (I use the audio editor built into Logic). Just open up a larger audio file and snip out the cycle you want; usually best to snip at zero crossings with matching directions (e.g. both positive-going).
If you like 80s retro sounds, check out my latest tune…

Ahem, okay, I'm going to embarrass myself but... how long is a single wav cycle? For instance in audacity, if I cut a longer wav file, what amount of audio should I keep?

I find samples by simply keeping my eyes open. They pop up all over the place.
Just found this: http://forums.rolandclan.info/?action=s ... d=4&page=1
Check the attachment in post 3.
Novakill has some in the freebies section:

A single cycle is the highlighted part of this wavrform. Should be clear enough.

OK I thought as much. Thanks.[edit]: thanks for taking the trouble to do a screenshot.jupiter8 wrote:I find samples by simply keeping my eyes open. They pop up all over the place.

Also used in this one:jupiter8 wrote:@Howard: If this isn't the case,i don't want to know about it. Please leave me believe that this indeed is the case. It's a really cool feeling.

This is really cool stuff, jupiter8. But what are the limits of the waveforms you can use? Some of the waves I've imported are clearly more than one cycle.
I don't see the info in the manual. What's the exact parameters and possibilities for waveforms in this format? More specifically allowable sample rates, bit depths, and max and min length in samples?
BTW: is there anything wrong with the older version 5 PC exe? I kind of like it better because the wave shapes are clearer and the file naming seems to work properly. The version 6 java one doesn't seem to take the file name I give it.
Thanks!

It loads wavs and aiffs(i think) of any bitdepth and samplerate with any number of channels. I fhtere's more than one channel it simply takes the first channel.
They can be of any length however they will be resampled to 128 samples because that's the format Zebra2 is in.
You can use any sound of any length but longer samples will obviously be nothing like the original.
As far as i know the old exe is working fine so if you want to use that, fine.
However it does a resynthesis of the waves which means they can differ quite a bit from the original. The Java version does a raw import plus the resynthesized version.
That's the reason it messes with the filenames.
I added a raw prefix to the raw version and a dft prefix to the resynth version. I've since decided that the resynth version is a bit superflous so it defaults to that off. And i removed the raw suffix from the raw files so they should be ok.
You can switch between raw and dft view by hitting ctrl-b.

If you have Java installed and the right file associations it should be a simple matter of simply double clicking on the Java2Zebra.jar and the program should start.djsubject wrote:any tips on how to run the java app?

Some tips:
You can double click on a cell to open the filebrowser.
You can select multiple files now.
Look at the short commands IE ctrl-e == export to Zebra2.
That's pretty much it i think.
