The answer is no.

I had a bunch of free Soundfonts made by the guy who made Ultimate Guitar Kit around a decade ago or so. When I became an Orange Tree Samples customer and saw the dev (GregJazz) reference Ultimate Guitar Kit as something he made many years ago, I shot him an email and asked, "Did you make a bunch of soundfonts and go by the name GeoffKahn many years ago?" He confirmed that was him (I think I'm allowed to say that; if not, Greg, please send me a PM and I'll edit this).

IMO, Orange Tree Samples makes the most realistic and usable guitar and bass sample libraries today, but they rely heavily on KONTAKT. (FTR, I've been a customer since their early days and I'm a marketer for a living and have given Greg marketing advice. That said, I own or have owned much of the guitar sample libraries and VSTs on the market -- even going back to the hardware based sampler days of the 80s.)

That's really interesting! I've heard a lot of good about Orange Tree Samples. Unfortunately, I don't have Kontakt, and won't likely be able to afford it for quite a while.... My wife and I are trying to save money for an adoption.

So, I have to stay on the cheap side of things--including not buying Kontakt or any expensive libraries.

Waves Factory looks interesting though.

I wonder why no one mentions any other sample libraries? Maybe their quality is not up to modern standards? For example, Digital Sound Factory puts out a lot of stuff that was considered professional standard, but I never hear anybody say anything about them...

Surely there must be some other companies that made High quality sample sets that are still available.......

@AKJ Thanks! That was suggested, and I've got it. I'd still like to find some multisamples that are DI'ed and are of Chords, mutes, downpicks, etc.

Do you have access to FL Studio or DirectWave? We're porting Shreddage to that format. DW comes free with FL, or you can use it in other hosts for $99. Shreddage itself is only $50. It's DI with extensive articulations and 8x RRs. Listen to the demos and judge for yourself, but I think you will find what many other users have as well - it is the most realistic DI library around for rock/metal rhythm playing. Up/down picks, powerchords, single notes, release samples, mutes, half-mutes, fast mutes (for rapid passages), etc.

Intersting info. I've barely skimmed the thread so far.
One of the reasons I hardly ever use the soundfonts I've accumulated is because I can't tell who created them, the source, and usage rights.
Years back I got a lot of these from sf2midi.com I think it was.

Try Sonivox demos first if you need pitchbend. I like some of their guitars but never got pitchbend to work to my satisfaction.

Yeah, I listened to the sonivox demos, and they sounded a little more "Fake" than other demos I have listened to. They may be of a lesser quality than I am hoping for. (Nevertheless, I'm still keeping them in mind and looking into them).

This looks really good! Supposedly this package works with Kontakt 2+. Does anyone have SampleLord or Extreme Sample Converter and Shreddage? I'd be REALLY interested in knowing how well this would work. ESC & SampleLord are supposedly compatible with Kontakt 2.

P.S. Directwave may be a possibility in the future for me as well. (at this point though, I'm stuck with what I currently have).

Hey Sean, I don't have ESC or SampleLord but in theory, the patches from the original Shreddage (not X) should convert fine. They don't use any Kontakt scripting that makes it impossible to port. However, I can't guarantee it without testing it myself. What I'd be happy to do is upload a palm mute patch w/ audio and you can see if that imports + plays OK. For example, by default, the library imports into DirectWave only if it is first converted to 16bit. Furthermore, you have to futz with the group cycle and envelope settings. But after that, it's fine (nonetheless, too much work for our taste, which is why we are pre-converting it.)

Regardless, if you got the original Shreddage and then wanted the DW version later, we would give it to you for free. We don't nickel and dime our customers.

Here's a palm mute patch, very simple, but should be a good test of whether SL/ESC can import. In this RAR are fast mute up/down samples plus the NKI file for them.

I own Extreme Sample Converter, but haven't used it in a long time and I do not own Shreddage (as it's really quite limited to a certain subset of metal and power chords, which is not a style I cover; that said, nothing against metal, I do enjoy listening to some metal bands/tunes). However, my experience with converting sample libraries to other formats is that complex libraries most often require tweaking.

As we discussed in our PMs, I think it's worthwhile for you to pick up Independence Free (which has a nice acoustic guitar), KOMPLETE FREE (which has an okay electric guitar and electric and acoustic bass -- but they're as good or better than most soundfonts) -- and Sampletank Free before spending your cash.

P.S. With this, I could use all of those electric guitars that come in the free demos!

I would still need to find something that does hammer-ons/offs, palm muting, slides, etc.

Any thoughts?
