(hypothetically, again) so to go with euro-rack could be
a good choice? if you want to use everything 'straight out
of the box'?

could someone tell me what is the difference between S-Trig (Moog)
and regular gate? i remember having to pull the gate jack halfway
out to get a trigger, or it would trigger on note off. is it simply
a reversed polarity? (i have an old 'missing link' cv+gate box somewhere,
it does S-trig as well as normal gate)
(what is I trig?!)

i = current
v = voltage

i-trig or i-gate means that, if you're talking in voltages, the voltage on the line is "sunken" by the source of the gate rather than "sourced".

in currents we reverse the terminology, so you're "sourcing" current with an I-gate, while you're "sinking" with a "normal" gate.

although, technically with a typical voltage gate current need not be involved. the inputs may have infinite impedance and work based upon some threshold. this makes voltage gates susceptible to noise sources like EMI pulses from an oscillator. although it's unlikely, it is possible that for example you might connect a ADSR next to a oscillator module. if you were to use an LFO's ramp or triangle wave somewhere at a very low rate to drive the gate of the ADSR, you would potentially get gating on/off of the ADSR when the LFO's waveform came very close to the threshold by the oscillator, at it's rate.

to prevent these sorts of situations, I-gates are used which are much less likely (if ever) to be affected by noise.

I found this to be a good read when I first saw it. Might be a bit helpful.

if you estimate 1200 euro acceptable and don't have to much room
the tinysizer from anyware instruments might be a choice.

it is a complete modular synth with the size of a laptop.
